Idiots guide to NETSTAT pretty please?

Ok, so I am having problems with my Sky broadband, really slow speed, pages not loading etc. Phoned Sky and the guy got me to do a command prompt NETSTAT to show connections on my PC. I haven't seen this prompt before and don't really understand what I'm looking at? The guy got me to count how many there were (17) and said there should only be about 5 or 6. Advised me to run anti virus and anti spyware, which I have done, just checked NETSTAT again and now there are 40 connections listed? lol.

Can anyone give me an idea what's going on?

Yeah I closed the browser and checked again, still loads there. Nothing downloading at the moment.

I don't really understand what the list is? Are these other people connected to me? or websites? I'm lost lol

have to restart, lots of things linger, then do the test before you load up browser

they are connections out and in

if you do netstat -b it shows you were from and the applications involved

I don't know what he's on about (only having 5 or 6). I've got 18, and I'm not doing anything which would open lots of different connections...

ok, did a reboot and then checked before I opened anything, there was nothing in the list. Opened firefox and rechecked and there was a whole list again.

tried the netstat -b and there are things listed for ashwebsv.exe, lots for firefox.exe

makes no difference, I'm still only getting 467kbps grrrr. guess I need to wait for the micro filters he's ordered to see if that's the problem, lol

do a speedtest.net

and a pingtest.net

that might tell us more anyway

ashwebsv is avast antivirus

firefox is firefox, so i dont think anything is bad your end

try using your master socket, take off the faceplate of the bt socket and plug the microfilter into the test socket

i doubt if its your microfilter, the test socket just uses the one and you can swap out some others for this test too

did a speedtest, 0.53 download, 0.39 upload blerghhh

Normally get 3.7 download.

test with your test socket behind your master socket (undo 2 screws pull off face plate)

plug into the socket behind,

I would suggest sky is limiting you for going over bandwidth though, nothing to do with microfilters but if you pick through what you have, then you will already know

This is what I suspected tbh, which is why I rang them, but nothing was mentioned on the phone, he went through some tests with me and ordered some new micro filters, surely they wouldn't have done that if I was capped.

Download and run a program called HijackThis, then post the result here. This will show if there is spyware bogging down your computer.

Of my 18 connections, 15 are Firefox, so how he expected you to only have 5 or 6, I don't know. Useless customer service!

Nowhere near, lol. I'm in the Midlands, and it's been playing up for about a week.
