If a teacher did this to your child-would you be happy??

Incredible story on the Scottish news just now-a PRIMARY school told all their pupils born in january and february that they never got enough sunshine while in their mums tummies and as a result their IQ was too low to be allowed to stay at the school. The following week they were all to be shipped off to a special school for "stupid children"

This was allowed to carry on for several hours until so many children were distraught and asking for their parents to be called that the school admitted it was all an exercise to show them how the Jewish people felt during the holocaust!

Has the world gone insane! Even after being slated by parents, the media and the education authority, the school still consider it to have been a useful exercise!

Hmmm. What age children? I know primary, but how old...
Strike that. There are better ways to teach them this, detailing their mother's exposure to sunlight could be quite upsetting. They should have just gone with a blue eye/brown eye thing. They did when I was at school. Made more sense as it really was something no one can control, nor take any blame for.

not as shocking as getting a ruler over the knuckles like we used to get

come on ffs, kids need stuff drilling into them these days
#15

not quite understanding that comment tbh-kids are told to listen to teachers,a 7/8 year old,or even older would certainly believe it if presented within lesson time in a sombre serious manner.

But the reason given was vaguely plausible. That's where I have a problem. If it was something entirely random, and unbased (like having had cheese in their sarnie that day, or being born on a Thursday, with blue eyes) it would have been better. Not good, still, but better. To give a reason like they did, seems odd and would distress some children.

and what about the distress of the kids that actual were sent.......get real if a child is distressed by something like that they are being handled with cotton wool and need toughening up for the big bad world............the real world!

if the kid is daft enough to believe the story or not grasp the fact it was an exercise then their parents have more to worry about than going after the school.

yeah and this is why kids have no respect for authority these days........terrorising old folk to death and stabbing people for fun

parents need to start stepping upto the plate instead of handling kids like they are gonna break

According to the reports i've read, they were Primary 7/Age 11....

in which case those are some dumb 11 year olds, probably at a rubbish school, probably hiring rubbish teachers.

I blame the parents of all involved, except the Jews they were learning about.

they were not-I have just watched the report on scottish news-the exercise was for all children aged 7-11(primary 3-7)

incidentally-the word dumb does not equate to stupid-its the inability to speak.

Children should never get upset. It's the rules.

dont worry, it was probably just the ginger kids...

Well I read it on English news (the BBC).

And dumb can mean 'stupid'. I've been called dumb enough times by people who were abundantly aware of my ability to speak.

according to the bbc it was primary 7 pupils, which means god help them when they go to high school after the summer.
