Unfortunately it's quite the opposite... size of said ring gives g/f guide to size of future presents for xmas & b'days!!!!

P.S: There's Valentines as well not to mention anniversarys.

However on the upside once you've married her all sense of expectation is dismissed and you'll never have to buy her another gift, she'll just raid your wallet and buy her own :)

well, if will suffice for the next 10 years if she dont divorce you for being so tight with presents ... lol

I always find (not from experience mind), that divorce 10x as expensive as marriage. - And 9 times outta 10, its the bloke that suffers. Bloke buys the ring (£1500), then, a cpl years on gets shafted -- not only for a divorce, but for all your money as well. lol

I've heard anything from 1-3 months wages, which is crazy imo. If I was to go for 3 months that would cost a few thousand pounds, money that I don't have just lying about. What's wrong with a ring that costs say £1000 - it's still mega expensive, and as a guy I don't get any presents in return!!!

I still thats excessive!!!

It depends on how much you earn or saved, that will influence the price of the ring you buy.

If she has chosen an expensive ring, remember she has to wear it for the rest of her life hopefully. So just think of the cost spread over a lifetime, and it'l work out cheaper...( thats the line I would use)

Good luck with your engagement and i'm sure what ever you decide to buy she will love it.;-)

Yep, that's why I'd look for the half price rings (so you can tell her you bought it full price...)!
#26
Have an engagment party you'll prob get some on the money back on your ring lol

Naw it's all down hill from then on... After you buy the ring you will need more money to spend on the wedding...

it obviously depends on personal choice, it doesn't have to be the biggest bling, but it could be the cut of the diamond or clarity which will cost more.

Why is that out of order..its personal choice.

maybe not out of order but greedy maybe to want the most showy expensive ring and expecting the guy to cough up, and if he cant afford it he would feel bad

I think my engement ring cost £300... and I still love it... I didn't care if it was a chepo ring from a lucky bag or an expensive diamond that blind monkeys mined... all in all it's the thought that counts.

We'll that's my opinion, I know a few people who were adimint that their ring had to be their ANNUAL wage if not at a least 6 months wages!! I just thought that was madness, I would be scared to ware a ring that was worth that amount of money... Knowing my luck someone would cut off my finger to steal it off me lol

Annual??? If I maybe stopped paying my mortgage for the next 5 years and didn't go out I could maybe afford that....... :whistling:

Can women tell the difference between diamons and cubic zirconia???

I agree, but cost doesn't always equate to " showy"

Some women can.. personally I probably can't by just looking at them lol... though diamonds are meant to be able to cut through glass... and also the inside band of the ring usually has a stamp on it to give the diamond weight (carrot)... and some rings have CZ stamped in them to say Cubic zirconia. so just be weiry...

To be fair my "friend" is abit of a show off and has to have the best of the best... apparently spending 30k on their wedding... we'll see if it'll last lol... we're only spending roughly 5K on our wedding and I stil think that's expensive

It's not what I'm planning, just something I'd always wondered, cos' I've tried to tell the difference before and couldn't see any!!!

Maybe if I was to get a more expensive ring she'd let me get a dog??? :whistling:

thats about £300 on the dole :whistling:

Personally its all to do with income, what she feels comfortable wearing etc.
I bought my girlfriend a lovely ring about 3-4years ago, and when i bought it everyone thought it was an engagement ring because its a nice size rock although i believe it is only CZ. I bought it second hand, but i find old gold lasts whereas new gold is so expensive and flimsy.
But that didnt cost me 3months wages and she has worn it everyday for the last 3/4years, and like i said she would have been happy with it as an engagement ring as well!

some of the best CZ's nowadays are hard to tell the difference from diamonds.
A year or two ago a couple in Brighton went into a jewelers tried on a £10k diamond and swapped it for a £50 CZ that looked the same...the jeweler only realised later what happened!
