crappp

I have had 4 macs, and sent 4 back. Useless. Something that wont even work on ebay. And you have to mess around with software etc. Basically, buy a mac, and steve jobs has you in his pocket. You do what he wants u to do, not the other way round!

I did.

Cheaper for pc if things go off to replace as well.

Edit laptop wise I still would prefer c2d with windows op

Windows, might not look as nice, but more for your money.

For that price range then definitely windows. I love mac OSX but the hardware available at that price range is utterly pathetic compared to the rigs you can build yourself.

Huh? Im using a macbook right now and have been using ebay flawlessly.

I could even use the ebay app for firefox if I wanted to.

If you can't get ebay to work, I don't know quite what to say.

Open Safari.

Type in www.ebay.co.uk

Press ENTER

Just noticed that no-one has bothered to ask what it is that your friend wants to be able to do with his laptop.

It's another £249 for the cheapest Macbook, unless you go second-hand. It's a bit of a jump if you're saying he's only got a £500 budget.

But, personally, I'd say it was worth it.

pc everytime, can custom build so fit exactly to your own spec and fairly simple to do. pc more appealing with the realease of windows 7, a great o/s. macs have more useful software pre installed but its easy and mostly free to download exactly the same or similar on a pc.

No its not. If they were the same I would say mac would edge it because of OSX, but if you get Windows 7 installed then there isn't too much difference.

Personally, it is. For my needs, I always prefer a Mac laptop to a Windows laptop.

But I use it mainly for websurfing and word processing. I have a Vaio loaded with Windows 7 and it's much better than Vista, but I just prefer to use Mac for the little things that save time.
#21
At £500 I'd go with a windows laptop, then if you want to use OSX then dual boot it. Best of both worlds (well not quite). Have a google for laptops that have good support for OSX installs.

Well the fastest and safest solution..........Linux!

But its not worth a 50% premium. I agree, i prefer OSX as an operating system, but when recommending it for another person I would never say its worth 50% more than the other.

Ok then smarty pants, how about you go into SAFARI and try to list something on ebay? Unless you know HTML code I will see you on a windows machine!

It's hard to quantify value like that. I personally think it is, because of the better work environment it provides.

I absolutely think that it makes me more productive.

I've got a few auctions going right now, although I listed them through Firefox.

Would you like instructions on how to download firefox?

I know exactly how to download firefox. But lets be honest, safari can not even list on ebay. And firefox has known issues, its all over google.

When you buy a mac, its like being tied to a beautiful car. It looks nice, its great to be on, but it wont let you go anywhere it doesnt want you to go.

Ideal for photo editing, word processing, sound editing, etc. Only if you have £000's of pounds to buy the software tho.

Oh, and if you buy a white one, in a matter of months it will be mingin.

I just checked - Safari works fine on ebay. I really don't know what your issue was.

I'm really not sure what restrictions Mac places on you. I've never felt restricted. It's done all the things I need and many with greater ease than my Windows laptop.

So you can list items on ebay, with safari? I dont think so. Every mac I had wouldnt let me do this. Only with firefox, but even that had its issues.

Maybe I need it for more things than you do?!

All that mac bashing, and I diddnt help the OP!! Anyway, a little advice. Keep an eye on Tesco online, good deals to be had there. I would also take a look at currys and pc world, while not always the best on price, the choice is very good. Argos are also a nice company to deal with. You shouldnt get any issues with a laptop of that price, but I would avoid comet at all costs. If there is a problem you are usually handed over to the manufacturer, they dont repair themselves. And dont even think about a refund if something goes wrong!! - With tesco you have no issue, pc world and currys use their own in house repair company which are ok. Argos are easy going etc. - buyer beware, but make sure you try out the machines first, see how much bloat ware is on them, see how fast or slow they turn on and off. I would also say usually intel are the better ones to go for. Quicker, quieter and coooooler most of the time.
