OP what time you go to bed and get up at?

I usually go to bed at around 12.30 or 1.00 at night but I dont really fall into dreamland for about another 2 hours i guess... first i toss & turn then I just stare up at the ceiling for a good hour oops: and then if i still cant sleep maybe listen to my mp3 player until i feel tired enough to sleep I get up at 11.30 am or 11.45 on my days off

You need to chnage your bodys natural clock. I worked in a pub for years when I was a student and got into the habit of late nights and late get ups. You just have to start getting up at a set time every day, whether it's day off or not, to get your body clock used to getting up earlier. Then have a good bed time routine (I know it makes you sound like a baby but then there body clcok had to be taught too), cup of tea, bit of music if it helps, whatever, but soemthing that triggers your bodies sleep cycle. Eventually your bodty clcok will settle into a new routine. Watch the amount of caffine etc your drink after lunch time and don't exercise too near to the time you would like to go to bed. The other thing is to try and stay awake in the day while you are reprogramming your body clocl. If your start to feel drwosy go for a walk, run or seomthing that forces your to stay awake and raises your energy levels.

That all said, even now my natural sleep pattern would seem to be bed around 1am, up at around 9am if I let it. Years of bad sleep habiuts are hard to break.

^^ Then that's probably why, for the first few hours you are still waking up (which is late day for most others).
You need to break the cyle (if you want to) by getting up at the same time every morning say 8.30-9.00, if you do this on a regular basis you body will adjust and you will be tired, then you need to go to bed at the same time each night say 11.30.

Your body doesn't know what time of the day it is as your sleep patterns are so variable.

Stick to it for a week or so or your body will not adjust.

Often feel run down during the day, but try as I might, rarely sleep before 1am. TBH, the one thing that works getting me to sleep is dope, but I dare not anymore as it also gives me the munchies! :-D

Me too. I'm definitely anaemic. Was throughout all my pregnancies, but thought it would have resolved itself now the youngest is 8 months. After a few weeks of feeling more than obscenely exhausted, hubby treated me to a big steak dinner and the next day I felt fine. It's odd that you realise what the problem is straight AFTER you feel better! More meat for me!!!
