by looking for cars! for months i have been after a white fiesta st with blue stripes but im looking at paying around 9grand for one, bit pricey and will skint me but could be done. then had the idea of a black zetec s which will be about 5-6grand. now ive had the idea of getting a convertible. i love the tigras but theyre only 2 seats, and a peugeot 206cc is affordable but french and prone to breaking and the back seats have no leg room at all. arrrghhhhh confused is not the word lol. anyone have any of these cars that can give me an insight into what theyre like? or give me some recommendations?

9k? You could get a real car for that . . . . :whistling:

Just got my OH a Tigra - 55 plate, 30k miles, in silver - £6k - she's MADE UP with it . . . (don't get it myself)

cheeky beggar! lol

i do want one but agree its a bit pricey, and theyre quite hard to get hold of in that colour too

Peugeot 307CC is a genuine 4 seater - probably the cheapest you can get. I've got one but not sure I'd recommend one. It's quite a good drive but the electrics seem a bit eccentric.

thanks! gonna go have a quick peek on auto trader now. peugeots do have a reputation for breaking and being expensive for parts which does put me off a bit

£9k - genuine 4 seater - A TON of fun to drive - looks as mean as a pensioner in a post office queue who needs a wee . . . . .

Or £8k for a shiny non modded blue one:

Remove the word "quite" and replace with "nigh on impossible"

Ok, first car then - the Tigra's not a bad bet - get the 1.4 petrol, cheap tax, insurance and has a surprisingly roomy boot . . .

The Fiesta's mentioned will be expensive to insure too, esecially if its the st/rs - so rule them out.

Mini cooper 1.6? quirky and stripey roof is an option, loads of 2nd hand knocking around and its essentially a BMW . . . .

VW ain't much to look at, but they're reliable. From someone who's spent a FORTUNE on having their car repaired this last fortnight, take it from me, when it's broken down, it really doesn't matter how fancy it looks or how much leg room there is. I'd avoid french cars like the plague!
#17
My OH has got a Honda Civic 2.2 diesel, 56 plate.... its brill! cheaper on the insurance and road tax too :)

i do like the tigra....but only 2 seats! no good for taking more than one mate out but they look the part. i need to be sensible though

fiesta st is 1600 to insure, could be done but will leave me skint. the zetec s is about 1200 to insure

mini cooper? nah not struck on them, too boxey, if that makes sense?

i know im a fussy beggar lol :p

how bout older civic type r ?

although french are pony - the clio sport are meant to be rapid...

from reviews iv read the fiesta st isnt that powerful

an ex had a cliosport....the brake (either the disc or the brake calliper, cant think which one) fell off whilst he was driving it.
yeah theres more poweful cars than the fiesta st which is 150bhp, lets not forget this is my first car and i think that will be powerful enough lol.

dont mind civics, but not looked into them as far as costand insurance would cost. might be worth a peek when i get some more time
#22
thomasc123
ah first car soz - yeh fiesta shud be ok although i had a 14. 06 fiesta for a few weeks which i sold as i couldnt stand it, it was rattling, slow... i hated it so much...

id pay the extra and go wiv a civic... much better build quality... and engine cannot be beaten

thing is an st will skint me enough, hence the reason looking for a cheaper alternative. civics are nice i agree but really cant afford to go any dearer than an st. i wouldnt fancy a 1.4 fiesta, would have to be the zetec s or st im afraid lol
#23
thomasc123
yeah if i had 9k id go for a golf or civic.... mayb even a focus st170 which isnt that fast but i had a focus and a fiesta and the focus was a wicked car and the fiesta was horrible to drive

my brother had a focus and loved it but for some odd reason the fiesta appeals to me more, also the focus will cost more and be more to insure. will look into the civic at some point though. im not keen on golfs, my brother has one of them now as well as a fiesta st. i just find them too square and plain but he loves it more than the fiesta.

im 23 (24 nxt month) and have been driving since i was 17.. iv had about 8 cars now...

definatly whatever you do dont go french, i was looking at the fiesta st's ages ago but i dont think i could drive one now.... not really my thing anymore.

did you know they do a fiesta zetec s in diesel... meant to be rapid !!

i know you wont want one but skoda fabia (VW) got 5 star reviews from most places 1.9td - apparently so so fast... but its a skoda i guess...
they are dirt cheap too and insurance

im 23 too!
im learning in a zetec s diesel and i wouldnt say theyre rapid lol, unless its just my driving lol. yeah your right i wouldnt want a fabia, but tbh i dont think theyre the ugliest cars in the world. i know not to go french but the 206cc has been shouting my name, and theres some really cheap ones about. i'll probs just end up with a fiesta of some sort tbh

can i just ask male or female ? cosi might be going way off here ! lol

just buy a beemer lol

Nooooooooooo . . .

Audi - I've had BM's, VW's, a Merc (hated it) Fords and Renaults - love my Audi now, would CONSIDER the new Golf GTI D possibly when its released or the new Scirocco, but VAG group cars are safe, reliable and the diesels have a bit of punch to em!

The Skoda Fabia Vrs is far faster than the Fiesta diesel - the VW TDI engine in the Fabia produces 130bhp which is enough to beat a BMW 330i 50-70 and match a Lotus Elise 111R 20-40. Despite that fuel economy is good and tax is comparatively low, the Fiesta on the other hand has to make do with a lowly 88bhp hence it wouldn't feel that nippy.

not sure about the diesel but the petrol 1.6 fiesta zetec s is 100bhp, the st 150bhp. i have been in an st numerous times and as a passenger they feel very nippy
