Make you're own larger? Why? Wine, I can understand, but lager?

cause its supposed to be nice
plus an £11 ingredient pack serves 40-45 pints
and its pretty strong

They do sell barrels, I have bought them before with damaged taps to use as a chicken drinker.

They also sell fermenting buckets and the like, pretty much all you need to get going (even the sugar downstairs)

Jebus - so you want to brew something to get you pineappled?

Where has the decorum gone from this forum? If it ever existed?

Trust me it wont taste very nice. It will cost a lot more than that. You need a few bags of sugar, storage, bottles, tops. Wilkinsons sell kits that you just need to add water too. Start with these first. Its worth visiting a home brew shop if you have one. They will give you all the help. If you want to make nice beer or vine then you have to get the right kit, and that aint cheap.

It is okay if you are doing it for fun but as cheap as the supermarkets sell it for I wouldn't bother to save money.

I used to do it, until I looked old enough to get served down the pub. I remember once "liberating" all the Grolsch bottles from the local recycling bin at the supermarket ;-)

Muntons are about the best beer kits on the market.

You won't regret it.

Once you get everything you need and factor in the time it's not something to save much money until you've done a few brews due to the initial outlay.

If you're just after replicating Stella etc then you're better off buying it on a supermarket deal. Lager is also harder to brew than bitter if done properly. Especially now the weather is starting to get warmer

Turbo cider is far cheaper though! - Essentially an empty 5l water bottle, 4l of apple juice, bit of sugar and perhaps honey and some yeast. Usually tastes pretty average though!

Oh and thrifty shopper is usually pretty good on price. I've used a couple of Coopers kits with success, Jims Homebrew Forum is a very friendly and helpful place - give that a look too for more questions
