Well i leave my job at tescos this saturday (hurray!!!)

Anyway ive had this thought that i might randomly fly to austrailia - by buying a cheap ticket (or new zealand)

But my query is - can i do that - can i just get up and fly to a country and stay there for about 2 weeks or so ???or do i need visas etc

I think for 2 wks you wouldn't need a Visa. Unless you planning to get some work somehow over there, then if thats the case you may need one.

yeah do it go nuts

I think that as long as you have a return ticket, you shouldn't have any problems - make sure you go to Sydney, it's brilliant!

I think there is a bit more to think about. You can't really "i might randomly fly to austrailia - by buying a cheap ticket"

Talking of which I saw this film once and it was weird, don't let the same thing happen to you.

It was about this guy from England who was meeting up with his Australia G/F and they planned to get the coach etc and travel about a bit. Anyway on the way to meeting up with his G/F he meets another guy and he somewhat mental and has some twisted ideas. Lots go wrong when he does finally meet up with his G/F,won't spoil ending incase somone knows what film I mean then someone decides to watch it.

On the other hand. You need a visa to enter any NON-EU country.

I think for Australia you do need a Visa (an ETA) even for a short visit. However it is easy to apply for, quick and can be done on-line.

See here

No, you don't! But you do need an ETA for Australia, it costs about £7 but can usually fo it instantly online.

No, you don't!

Well that's what I was told.
You need a travel/holiday visa

I had to get one when i went to turkey.

You will need to apply for an ETA to visit Oz,even for a 2 week holiday http://www.visabureau.com/australia/travel-visa.aspx.

If you are wanting to go to OZ,I would go for longer than 2 weeks......make it 3 or 4 weeks if you can manage it.The flight ticket price should not be any different whether you go for a shorter or longer time....also bear in mind it is now coming into their autumn,so dependent on the area you are going to,it may not be as hot as you think, should still be pleasant though:)

It depends on the country. i.e. You can go to the US for up to 3 months without a Visa.

any reason the quick departure? or just pure adventure lol, in which case GO FOR IT.
banned#26
If you did that, your trip would be very short - and you'd be on the next flight back!!!!!

You need a visa for OZ - though not difficult to obtain.

2 weeks isnt enough time anyway - its a BIG place!
#27
some countries you need to plan ahead, like asia i think you need to apply for a visa and get jags
#28
Go for it , you only live once

Just make sure you sorted for accomodation over there,if you need any vaccines or whatever ( I don't know much about that cos I not been any further than France ! ) and make sure you got full insurance medical etc and of course cash travellers cheques whatever.
No coming onto HUKD asking us to all send you $1 AUS each by Western Union.

Speaking of accomodation!!!!!!

If you are definately going to go for it, I might be able to help out for about £100 a week in superb timeshare places. Nothing to do with me..... just something I am a member of - and you can book it yourself direct (by a bit of a fiddle!!!!)

was it worth it ?
Id stay for that time but id be on my own but need to travel i dont want to work the rest of my life having never done anything spontaneous

If you want adventure, get yourself to Thailand, your money will go a lot further and it is so easy to travel around, you will also meet loads of other travellers along the way......but it will be hot!
No visa needed either, there are so many beautiful places to visit there as well, culture, bustling Bangkok and great islands.

Don't need to pack much either as you can buy t shirts, shorts, flip flops for very little, just get what you need along the way.

As I understand it, doing it on-line is really quick (hours rather than days)

Probably longer than 2 wks going by how long passports take, and passports if you want them done speedy processing they cost extra.
