I haven't seen any difference with the cut so unlikely, saying that I haven't bought a 60k sports car where a 2.5% discount would of been nice.
#3
I am trying to find a new car before the end of the year as a 2.5% VAT saving will be considerable.
#4
how will it hurt me? BY 2.5% of course...

Also its not an increase, its a return to the correct value, it was lowered for a period to try and stabilise our economy (like ti worked!).
#5
i think this will be used as a marketing ploy in the new year " Buy Now Pay @ The Old VAT Rate"

think in the states it varies between what its for etc. But yeah obviously other countries have different rates...mainly lower as our government love to screw us! :-D

I doubt things will. change, remember when it first came in Argos, Littlewoods etc were offering a discount and now that has vanished, i think M+S are the only retailers still offring it all the others have been ripping us off.

It will hit when you pay garages or plumbers as they usualy quote ex vat

Lots of shops are not putting it up till March!
I know John Lewis is definatly one of them!

But why do they need to put it up, they havent lowered it have they !

Or is this a chance to hike prices yet again to rip us off

Yeah they lowered it last year to 15% to get us all spending to help the recession, so now its being increases back to 17.5%

Err no shops havent reduced prices they have pocketed the diffrence !!

Thats my point they did to start with and then stopped a few months after, M+S is the only place i know of that give a VAT discount on goods still

But some did reduce their prices, this may not be the case now!
I know John Lewis did, M&S did and Primark still have!
#19
Exactly some did then they silently put them back up so prices should stay the same when the VAT goes up.
#20
currys re-aligned all their prices, cos i was in early doing tickets that day, over the next few months everything just got rounded up to the nearest pound again.

i like the way that shops are apparently 'ripping us off'.

some people who post on here and just too much.

the golden rule on this website should be "A store is never allowed to make a profit on a sale, but must carry on trading long enough to honour the free 1 million year warranty they promised me when I asked them to price match"
#21
Don't talk rubbish, the VAT saving was to be for the consumers to make a saving but places like Curry's have pocked the difference themselves and not passing the saving on, whey did they suddenly stop passing the saving on , maybe someone at HQ realised they could pocket a few more million profit out of it and not do what it was intended for, at least places like M+S have the decency to pass on the saving

If you were in business you'd realise how hard it is at the moment!!
#23
It's been more like a back handed bonus for businesses during this tough period. It hasn't really benifited the consumer who will not make any large purchases (like a car).

For the likes of myself who work in accounts, it's been a hassle more than anything!

I would like to see your evidence for that statement

you do realise that DSGi, the owners of Currys/PC World and Dixons arent pocketing any profit, they're about 17million in loss this year.

but as i said earlier, on this website, no business must ever make a profit.

profit drives business.
thats the only reason they exist.

Littlewoods were offering a VAT discount on goods, that vanished, Argos reduced goods and that has vanished, Currys offered a discount and now that vanished, yes they will still be paying vat at 15% but they are not passing on the benifit to us the consumer, that was the whole point of the reduction to stimulate the retail industry !

and the cost of manafacturing has gone up. Oil price drives the transport cost, just consider how much these companies have to pay to deliver those goods. All manner of reasons for prices to rise. Wage rises et all...

I would be interested to see the records you kept on thses prices rising.
