as game and gamestation are buying these in for £120 i would say they know there is going to be a shortage this xmas, as for deals i dont know, but buying early maybe a good idea

depends..as they sometimes come with games..but obviousl you would buy what you like...and my wii only came with one controller...annoying as we wanted to play the multiplaer..so thats worth checking.....I havent bothered with a wii fit..although some people love them

yes it only comes with one controller and nuncheck, i got my second nunchuck froma catalogue as they sent me a code for £10 off, so it cosrt me a fiver, and the second remote i purchased wii play, as it was only a couple of quid more and came with the wii play games, and to be honest he has played on this alot

Daughters are 5 and 8 yrs and the 5 yr is shockingly good on the laptop so i dont think she will have any problem picking it up

then you deffo need an extra remote and nun chuck for two kids, my son also loves the mario cart, you will also need twqo wheels for that, personally i wouldnt go buying any games unless dirt cheap, until you have got your wii, if you can get a good deal from argos ide go there and take out the three year replacent warranty

perosnally wouldnt buy the wii fit till you know they going to use it, a fair few games floating about for £5, £6, £7 to get them, to spend alot on top games straight off isnt the wisest as they may show no interest, my son only had some of the dearer games because they where on the offere at morrisons for half the normal price

Is there anything you can get for singing/dancing on them? i seem to think ive seen them advertised before.

yes again, but these dont tend to be cheap, a good site to use to filter cheap games, and also to check best price for games is www.find-games.co.uk

What sort of price would i be looking at for a console and controller, if i added the rest on later

im not sure how much they sell for now, different stores have different promotions on, but they used to seell for £180, but think every now and agin they go for anout £150 that is for the stand alone wii, the wii, wii sports game, one controller and one nunchuck, but like i say lots of stores do offers with a couple of games, as long as they good games its a good buy, but sometimes they chuck in cheap games and add say £40 for two games you could have got for a tenner

This year has really got to be the last year that the Wii will be in demand (if at all). The manufacturer has (publically announced they have) run out of ideas of where to take the console direction in the future (now that the Wii MotionPlus device has finally been released), and those who bought the console first must now be looking to either upgrade to another seventh generation video games console, or sell the (now unused) Wii console to gain funds due to the recession.

As much as I enjoy playing some (but not most) games on the Wii platform, it really is starting to creak under the strain of the attraction of other consoles now. Well, until they uncover the hidden HDMI port & the automagic up-scaling of all released titles to date! ;)

PS. Wii wish you a merry Christmas (my experience of buying in time for the big day two years ago)

The new PS3 Slim (120Gb) [& soon to be announced 250Gb/PlayTV bundle], and the newly priced Microsoft Elite (120Gb) [but, sadly, not the now-shelved 250Gb model] will be on most Christmas lists this year. The Wii still has the better selection of titles for younger gaming families, so it will still have a market, but don't assume it will be in as great a demand as it once was; that is, don't get ripped off with a bundle with four or five (over-priced/undesirable) games because you think that is the only way you will get to buy one.

That said, don't let the kids hate Santa... The same kids grow up & get to pick your nursing home.

my little guy adores the wii, and has never shown any interest in a PS3 or an xbox, and to be honest i think this was always going to be aimed at the youngsters rather than the teenagers who are into blood and gorey stuff - lol

look at the top selling games for the wii, then look at the top selling games for the xbox and PS3

Sassie, you mentioned the argos extended warranty before, do they have reputation for breaking down??

no, had mine a year and nothing, infact i dont know anyone that has had one break, i mentioned it beofre on the ds lite as they are portable and carried around so i think its good buy for 3 years cover. i got my wii from asda and took out two years warranty on it, becuase i have little nephews and was worried about them shoving things in it, but they have never touched it, but things do tend to get broken around my little guy:oops:

:)

The games I enjoy on either of the two Wii consoles we have are...

"Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition)"
"Manhunt 2"
"Red Steel"

[not much blood'n'gore there! ;)]

My 7 year old likes the Mario-themed titles, including, but not limited to...

"Mario Party 8" (& the earlier iterations from the GameCube range)
"Super Mario Galaxy"
"Super Paper Mario"
"Mario & Sonic at the Olympics"
"Luigi's Mansion" (again, a GameCube title)

(but not "Mario Kart Wii" even though we have four wheels for a family race-fest... it just never happened... after a day or two everybody was bored of it)

And...

"Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3"
"EA Playground"
"The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy"
"Soulcalibur Legends"
"SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom"
"Boom Blox"
"Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure"

My 8 year favours:

"The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return"
"LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga"
"Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Lightsaber Duels"
"Star Wars: The Force Unleashed"
"Super Smash Bros. Brawl"

My 11 year old just plays:

"Pokémon Battle Revolution"

All three prefer the Nintendo DS Lite, Sony PlayStation Portable, (MS-DOS/MS-Windows) Personal Computer, & Sony PlayStation 3 above the Wii consoles though.

They rarely get used. We bought "Wii Fit" & have used it twice :(

For singing/dancing on the Wii there is "Boogie" but that was terrible!

There are plenty of others to choose from though...

"Dance Dance Revolution" (a few releases)
"Dancing with the Stars" (two different games, I think)

"Disney Sing It"
"Disney Sing It! - High School Musical 3: Senior Year"

"Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour"
"Hannah Montana: The Movie"

...amongst many others.

BFN,

fp.

PS. All three of my kids still regular play (and create levels for) "Little Big Planet" [PS3].

:)

If you were local to us, I'm sure he'd be welcome to come 'round & play for a while. Kids are great if they are somebody else's & you can give them back. Well, to a point. When you come home from work & find the house is over-run with 5 or more of the local midget population all crowded 'round a PS3 it isn't as easy to wind-down in an evening as it could/should be.

This aside...

It is also scary to list the Wii games they do play on. The collection of titles we have that they do not play on now is much longer :(

But you know the moment you decide to sell them on they'll ask to play them again.

I found that with their PS2 games collection...

I made them sit down & decide which ones they were never going to play again & told them all that I was going to sell them (to buy new games they did want to play).

All were happy with the arrangement. They went back to the pile & put some back on the "games shelf" again as they thought they may play them again.

I took the remaining 50+ "no longer fun, Dad" titles aside (yes,... 50!) & began creating a list (to place into a "For Sale" thread here at HotUKDeals). I got side-tracked, as you do, and a few years on I have never got back to the list.

However, on a fairly regular basis (approximately once or twice a month), at least one of the kids asks me where one of the aforementioned games is. I then have to go out to where I have stored them & bring the required game back to return into the console then onto the "games shelf" we have in the front room.

There are only about 10 games left in the pile of "to sell" now.

Kids, eh? Sheesh.

lol, your house sounds fun, no kids by us so its just me, 16 yr old and little guy, but in all fairness to him he is quite happy to play alone on the wii, for the first few months it was on continually, but thankfully not now, he still plays on it most days even if onyl for 10 mins, but when he gets a new game he goes back to it alot, no matter how cheap the game, he is a few of the better games, but still has had his moneys worth out of the cheappo games
