Note the word "area". It is not actually in a toilet room, but near where the toilet is in the cell. Doesn't this mean that all three prisoners are in the toilet "areas"? I think the press are spinning this issue to make it sound disgusting and filthy.

BBC
Two-man cells had been turned into three-man cells by putting an extra bed in the toilet area.

Well we all know that prisoners live in their own masionettes these days. With their gold laced satin sheets and their very own personal butler.

Yeah press making up news cos its a slow news day. We will hear tomorrow how the prisoners also have to actually clean their own toliets now too :o

Foreign prisoners have outnumbered UK nationals for the first time in a British jail.
Of the 350 inmates at Morton Hall women's prison in Lincolnshire 65% do not have UK passports according to the Times newspaper.

The rise at the prison in Swinderby has been put down to an increase in the number of women jailed for drugs smuggling.

One in seven of the record 74,000 inmates in England and Wales is a foreign citizen.

Strewth you're all a right wing lot ain't ya? Prisoners are people too, some may have it easier than others, but treating them like dogs isn't going to help them change their ways.

I remember I had to do a full assignment on prison overcrowding in prisons at Uni!! The main reason is the foreign prsioners and the government failing as always!!!!!!

i just think that prisons should be horrible places, yes prisoners are people too but they are there for a reason. Prison shouldnt be a holiday it should be a punishment!. Maybe prisons should be like they are in dystopian films, all cages piles up wall to wall. We could get more in that way!
#19
Would you feel that way if you had to serve some time? You would still think that sleeping next to a urine stained floor is a fair and just punishment along with your lack of civil liberties, constant beatings, threats of rape etc?

I'm sure all prisons are like hotels if you read the Daily Mail or some such rag. I'm not saying prisons should be pleasant mate, but people shouldn't be caged like animals; it breeds even more contempt.

By the way, I'm not trying to be offensive folks, just debating!
#20
Those who have to sleep in the toilet area are already the ones being picked on I'm sure.
#21
i do feel sympathy for oaps who get prison for not paying council tax - women who kill their ******* partners when there is no other option -

majority of prisoners have committed a crime - got to take consequences

Prisoners are people too, but they need to learn how to interact with and respect other people who do not stoop to deviant behaviour in society. I think the UK should have a walled city built for those who commit crime. They could have freedom to walk around the city, go to a cafe, cinema, football match, and live in their own homes. Then, after spending time in there, being robbed, mugged, raped, knifed, homes broken into, and beaten up, they will know what it is like for the general public they abused.

I agree, and i read the guardian not the daily fail.

For some prison is better than their normal living condition and for that reason some want it. If the stats are true for 1 in 7 not having a uk passport. They should be removed surely you agree on that?

May i ask if you have been to prison, as i must admit i have not and am therfore basing my opinion on second hand expeiences and the media.

"All that is neccessary for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing".

I completely agree, you should take responsibility for your crimes, but I think this takes the ****. Do you guys forgot that the foreign people who come here are looking for a better life, often do the jobs that no Brits want to do, for terrible wages and conditions and are treated generally badly by us Brits. We then complain when they are drawn to crime. To me, it's like drinking to get a hangover.

Anyone thought about wrongful imprisonment or people that are found guilty when in actual fact the arnt, anyone been to prison? life in a 10" by 8" cell isnt as rosy as the papers make it, also realise there are diff cat's of jail like an open jail for instance! Just cos the paper prints it doesnt make it true
I agree with get rid of the imagrent crimanals whole hartedly but also find it anoying when people bang there gums about things the know little or nothing of, or just assume its true cos they read it in the daily sport. Prison is not as fun as the papers make out

Haha, I would like Chuck Norris and Johnny Cash on mine!

No, I have never been to prison, nor would I ever want to (I'm to much of a wimp to do time). I have had a few friends who have spent time inside though, and they are completely different as a result of it. Quieter, but with a simmering anger that I think is just going to erupt one day. One in particular had a penchant for ecstasy, but was caught several times taking it, he is a complete pacifist but likes to dance and the feeling that the drug gives, do you think he deserved time?

Sorry to insult your taste in newspaper RedRanger :-D

Let's meet them half-way, then. Let's deport the prisoners to the sea, somewhere.

Sorry but yes your friend did deserve time because he was breaking the law and was caught several times. We can fool ourselves but there is no such thing as a victimless crime. We all know the law and if we choose to break it then we should accept what comes.
