Insignia or Passat

Which would you choose? A brand new (new look) Passat or a higher specification Insignia (same money, more gadgets and a little more power).

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Germans ftw! Passats resale value will be better.
#3
which models you looking at? Company car?

Where i work they got 30/40 insignia cdti.
They are full of gadgets and nice toys lol.
But have been back to the garage with probs many times.
I have 2 vectras and was replacing my oldest one this year with an insignia form work when
they sell them off at 2 years old.
But i wont as they have to many faults.
The one i drive has only 35000 miles, for a diesel thats not much.
Its been back to vauxhall 7/8 time now with light on the dash coming on and car going into limp mode etc.
I got the company to buy op-com readers from an auction site so if lights come on i get out lappy and op-com and clear the fault, which helps get me home quicker. Then next day if fault re appears its back to vauxhall o well.
Love the car but to many probs.

Passat only has a boot and the insignia is a hatchback....so worth bearing that in mind.....personally I think the Insignia looks nicer and has the more modern appearance.

Why isn't the class leading mondeo in your choice....read and watch some reviews on here of cars in this class.

Quite a lot of Vauxhalls are made and designed in Germany.

Doesn't make them any better.(_;)

Neither, go for the Mondeo!

Passat all day long for me

I wouldn't have a vauxhall full stop out of the 2 it would be vw all day long but like others have said the Mondeo would be an even better choice

I wasn't saying Vauxhalls are good or better, just that the poster I replied to seemed to think that VW were the only German can in the OP's question.

I'd buy neither, they're overpriced and don't have very good reliability.

Or the very highly rated Skoda Superb?

The scoda is ugly and already looks dated....if your going to go for the budget executive instead of family car then the Toyota avensis is the one to go for and it doesn't have a skoda badge.

But lets not turn this into a skoda thread.

Nobody is trying to. I was just suggesting an alternative, as you did.
But to discount a suggestion because it's ugly (an opinion) despite the fact that there are no negative reviews to be found anywhere? A little short sighted maybe?

Edit: I just noticed your reference to the 'Skoda badge'. Having seen that, just forget I spoke.

Nothing wrong with skoda mechanically....they just build ugly cars and the badge isn't very prestigious IMO

Neither is a Vauxhall badge to be honest.

I don't think I mentioned the Vauxhall badge...I said

"The scoda is ugly and already looks dated....if your going to go for the budget executive instead of family car then the Toyota avensis is the one to go for and it doesn't have a skoda badge."

I was making a distinction between the mondeo, insignia and passat which have marketed themselves as the big family car as opposed to the avensis and the skoda which are trying for the budget executive market.
#18
You didn't say it specifically, the impression you gave was that Vauxhall was a prestigious badge.

I also don't agree even slightly that the Avensis is a budget executive either. The starting price is only £1k difference between that and the Mondeo and £800 from the Insignia.

Really...can you point me in the direction of what lead you to think that as I only mentioned the word Prestigious in reply to Deak who mentioned the skoda.

I suggest you try an follow the continuity of the written word before making silly assumptions based on your lack of comprehension.

i find the insignia petrol 1.8 underpowered when i get them from work, although the diesel version is great. I haevn't driven the passat so cant comment on that yet

No need to start getting personal. Geesh!

I took the aforementioned impression from the opinions you expressed earlier in the thread about the other brands, and read it in context.

The Superb would certainly be my choice in this class as it's a more practical car than the Passat in the saloon body and you get much the same car but with better spec.

I would go for a mondeo every day of the week.

But out of your choices, the passat

lol...like me pointing out that the passat has a boot and the Insignia has a hatchback and looks more of a modern design???? Or maybe me saying that the Moneo was the class leader and Worth a look, lead you to believe it....or maybe it's all in your head and you just like bickering over nothing and will then make things up rather than just admit you misunderstood.

So again I ask what lead you to believe that I thought vauxhall was a prestigious badge.

I've already explained to you why I interpreted you giving that impression - I'm sorry you can't figure it out from that.

I mentioned the word prestigious in my 4th post on this thread, so which of the prvious 3 posts lead you to believe that I thought Vauxhall was a prestigious badge.

Was it my first post that had a link to a review of both cars the OP was asking about

Was it my 2nd post

"Passat only has a boot and the insignia is a hatchback....so worth bearing that in mind.....personally I think the Insignia looks nicer and has the more modern appearance.

Why isn't the class leading mondeo in your choice....read and watch some reviews on here of cars in this class.

my 3rd post

"The skoda is ugly and already looks dated....if your going to go for the budget executive instead of family car then the Toyota avensis is the one to go for and it doesn't have a skoda badge.

But lets not turn this into a skoda thread."

Or my 4th post that contained the word prestigious, but made no mention of vauxhall.

Pick a number....or just admit you jumped to the wrong conclusion or just leave it as your not man enough to admit that you were wrong.

I understand that you are floundering to find an answer to a very simple question....which is which part of the above posts suggests in even the remotest way that I hinted at or implied that the vauxhall badge was prestigious.

Now man up and just admit you were wrong.

youre just being an argumentative pillock for the sake of it again.

Stop bickering.

VW ALL DAY EVERY DAY!!

I had a bump in my new 320d and have been given a Insignia SRi Auto Estate, I'm not a big fan of it at all!, it's noisy, clunky, doesn't fit in a parking space as it's too long, visibility is quite poor as well.

However before I got the 320d I had a Passat highline and that car was fantastic, but the Skoda octavia elegance hire car I had around the same time was a better car imho.
#35
you were discussing/talking about vw and vauxhall and went on to say you prefer the vauxhall over the vw......skoda then gets thrown in the mix and you go on to say tht skoda isnt very prestigious.......

that implies that you believe vw and vauxhall are prestigious brands compared to skoda.....depsite them being under the vw arm

regardless what nonsensical reply/twist/spin you come back with....thats how your posts come across.

the end
#36
both bro-in-laws have Insignia company cars, one has the new estate... Very nice
would choose either over the Passat anyday
#37
The VW presents a good case for stronger residuals although the Vauxhall offers more VFM in the first phase of ownership. I agree with what others have said about consiering other cars too and my pick of the bunch would probably be the Honda Accord.

I was merely trying to be diplomatic/polite by saying that skoda isn't a very prestigious brand....rather than saying that the skoda badge on anything other than a cheap budget car looks out of place....skoda maybe good mechanically, but they haven't established themselves in the executive car market enough to be taken seriously and you wouldn't earn much cred driving one.

And yes skoda is aiming for the executive market with the superb and vauxhaul and ford are not, they are targeting the family and mainstream company car markets (non exec and not prestigious)
