Installing Windows 7

Hi, I know the windows 7 RC is out and I am thinking of installing it on my pc. I am aware that sometime next year all the RC installed PCs will uninstall every 2 hours. Will this still happen if I use the microsoft technet subscription one that i got a while ago on that crazily busy thread?

Also, here are the stated min requirements:
* 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1GB of RAM
* 16 GB of available disk space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)

This may be a stupid question but are these really enough? I have a 1.6 GHz processor so how much ram will I need? I dont want it to be crawling really slowly but it doesnt need to be very fast either. Its just 1GB memory seems a little small to me If W7 is as RAM hungry as vista.
Basically I just want to try it out so I dont really mind if it will only be valid till next year, I am just wondering what the recommmended specs would be. I was planning on reinstalling xp on it anyway but i thought it might be cool to stick W7 on it (its not my main pc).
Thanks

Just back everything up and try it :) I have installed in a 1.7ghz machine with 512 mb ram and it runs fine:?

It was only meant as a trial but my mate was happy enough to leave it on instead of me reinstalling linux which is what I had intended.

no you can use the basic vga driver which is slow as hell drops desktop performance by about 40-50%

Oh dear, but its still faster than without the graphics card right?

its really hard to say as nvidia don't actually make any graphics cards, just the chips to go on them
I did try the vista driver for my 5200 and it wouldn't use it but give it a go what have you got to lose ;)
#13
oh, well ill give it a go anyway
#14
just ran update on my 5200 machine and it has installed a driver for the 5200 so will see how it performs ;)

For those who have installed it, can you do me a favour please?
Go to speedtest.net and run the test?
I have o2 bb and get around 16Mb down, 1Mb up
From windows 7 i get 49Mb down and 1Mb up lol
Just wondered what part of windows 7 is causing this, the flash?
#16
wow thats quite impressive, i still havent installed it yet i need to get a HDD.

ok i installed w7 (yes i no its taken ages) and it was running fine but as a vga graphics card so i tried installing the w7 driver for my card from nvidia website and it said it installed but when i rebooted i got a bsod. so i used safe mode - system restore, and decided to go without card driver, and ran windows update, but one of the updates was card driver which computer wont even go into safe mode now. i liked w7 but i think i'm just going to go back to the good old xp on that pc if i cant get it running well.
