Hey, i recently bought a PAYG 16Gb iPhone 3GS, obviously locked to O2. I bought it from the Apple Store online.

I now really need to get some insurance for it, and dont know which one to get as i have now jailbroken and unlocked it so i can use it on my Vodafone contract.

Does anyone have any experience in my situation and can tell me which one is best to go for? There seems so many sites for iPhone insurance, most look very dodgy!

Thanks for any help

What can Apple or Carphone warehouse offer you? No need to tell them about the mods you've done.

Not sure if you would like to do this but I get my mobile insurance from Baclays Additions, does the job for all my insurance and car assistance. No questions asked and defo worth the £16 a month I pay.

thanks for the replies guys, i just worry that i take out insurance with no questions asked, but then i make a claim and they reject it as i have technically broken the warranty and been using it for purposes not originally made for (ie jailbroken and unlocked)

Is there anyone else in a similar situation? Need to get it insured asap for piece of mind!!

Hey dude, I did spend a lot of time looking into this for mine. I ended up going with getting a Lloyds TSB Silver current account.

It costs £3 for the first two months, then £7 a month after. Here is what you get:

Cover for a mobile phone up to £2000 inc. Accidental damage and liquid damage. (Internationally)
Up to £1500 of unauthorised calls.

And you can claim twice in a year.
£30 Excess (£5 more then o2 but its a lot cheaper and I don't think o2 cover you internationally).

You also get AA Breakdown cover, European travel insurance (for you and one other person) for up to 22 days in europe.
You can also collect airmiles at 1 Airmile per £1 spent.

And you also get Sentinel card protection.

Personally I think all that for £7 a month is a bargain.

If you want to look into it more, its all there.

Nice one, that sounds brilliant!! Have you had any experience in claiming etc with lloyds?

Also, did you transfer all your banking to lloyds or just literally open the account for the insurance etc?

I was already with lloyds, but i know 2 or 3 people who took it out just for the insurance, just put the £7.95 in your acc for the 1st of every month.
I haven't needed to claim luckily yet.
I know someone on here did(not lloyds user but user of the insurance provider lloyds uses), they got a cheque for retail price of their 3G.

That sounds good, was their iPhone jailbroken as well? I have heard good stories about o2 insurance but didn't want to use them as I imagine they will ask for my phone number, which obviously isn't on o2!

That's why I need to know if people have had experience with insuring unlocked iPhones

Mine is jailbroken, its fine.

you'll use the insurance when the phones not working, not likely they'll find out about the jailbreak.

Yeah i thought about that, and i think you can restore it (if still possible) and all traces of the jailbreak will be removed.

Im worried mostly about dropping it and shattering the screen. Although i have it in a Capsule Rebel Case im sure it will shatter if i dropped it!
