I had my vehicles insured with direct line insurance for over ten years, but was getting fed up at the increases even though I never had a claim. Id get a bigger car the insurance went up, a smaller car the insurance went up, moved home insurance went up, moved back insurance went up.
One minute I had protected no claims then it dissapeared and I had to pay extra to get it back. In the end at renewal time i decided to go with a different insurance company, as I saved about 25%.
This was the worst mistake of my life, my rear window got smashed, I was told my cover did not include for glass so I would have to make a claim. Instead I paid out £ 125 on xmas eve to have my window fixed and keep my NCB. I had another window breakage about 3 months after this which cost me £ 86.Most windows I have had broken since driving.
My insurance company kept messing about and taking the wrong money, and after about 6 months I just cancelled it.
Should they still have given me back my 10 yr + no claims discount proof as I have now gone back to direct line but they say I have no ncb certificate and my insurance has rockted. withthe extra cost of fuel i really cant afford this.
PLEASE please help !!

previous insurer has to provide your NCB entitlement. I think Direct Line should be the ones getting this, not you.

Who is the other insurer BTW?

Don't forget quidco

My insurance was £35 this year after quidco cashback of £75

Try and find your paperwork which proves you had your no claims protected, failing that get onto the insurance company and ask them to give you a breakdown of the prices that you were paying for - I'm sure your no claims protection would come up then. As for the window damage - as with all insurance policies, it doesn't cover glass/screen damage and you have to pay the excess (normally £50-£75). Hope you get it all sorted.

Most insurance policies cover Windscreens, well thats what i thought anyway.. :thinking:

I always thought that windscreen/glass damage came under one of the excesses? It always has with my insurance - hmmmmm need to look into that I think.

A way of saving money with direct line if you WANT to stay with them is to cancel your policy that they send out to you for automatic renewal and then get a quote online and take the online one. You just have to call them. I have just done this and it worked out £150 cheaper online than their automatic renewal. Stupid but worth it. They also waive the cancellation fee.

Isn't it funny how they share enough info to know you phoned prev company 3 yrs ago about a possible claim but can't share info about NCB which means you have to do all the running!

They don't stop you from doing your homework. Just get a better quote and take it. most people (including myself) take the automatic renewals. I have only done this this year and saved around £300 with both car and home insurance.
