You are obviously a young driver with few if any no claim bonuses, doubt you'll get it much cheaper. I was trying to insure a megane 57 reg 2.0l sport I was getting insurance prices of about £6000.

go to autotrader.co.uk and use their compare insurance i've been checking insurance on higher powered cars that the 1.4 zr and its coming out under £2000

My lad found Direct Line to be the cheapest when he started out but it still cost him £1600 in his first year for a 1.3 panda.

Just hit the comparison sites

GoCompare

Think the only way you will get it cheaper is to keep mum as main driver and put your name on

Elephant was the cheapest for me at £1300 for 10 months, Corsa 1.2

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Insurers tend to rate the premium on the youngest driver, despite whether it's in the parent's name. Plus, if you are the main driver using it to and from place of work/college etc every day, then you don't want your insurers kicking out any claim in the future on this point, if they find out.

fairly sure this is illegal though - id only go this option if you both use it

New driver insurance is always really high, only way around it is to use perhaps a less valuable car, which is 1.1 or lower and just get third party insurance

Direct line were good for me also though - and theyre not on the comparison sites

Thats called "Fronting" - it is illegal, but quite a few people do it......

You need to take the hit at some point, so it might as well be now while you have no other major financial comittments :)

Try a company called Adrian Flux, found in the back of a magazine (Max Power before anyone says anything!) they specialise in high performance cars for young drivers but also quote for young drivers.

They quoted me £950 for my first car some years ago, which was £££'s cheaper than others at the time

Good luck!

Try adding another driver like your dad or mum that can knock a few quid off
#13
Definitely try direct line, I've been with them since I first started driving and they've always been the cheapest. One thing I'd do is get an on-line quote and then phone them for a quote, see if there's any difference. Then try to haggle the price down from the lower quote...

Bell always give me the best quote, no matter what car... (22 year old male)
