What I want to know is what would i need to connect the HD ready TV with my PC so that it displays on there. Also, would it actually display in high definition? I heard somewhere that when you use a TV as a monitor, it has a lower resolution so i was wondering if this would be the case for this Blu-ray setup?

You need a graphics card with either DVI or HDIM out and with Blu ray decode built in (to reduce cpu load) there are a a number of Geforce cards that fit the bill.

The output would be full 1080p as long as the card supported it.

My card definitely supports it, it's an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX. I was more on about what i'd need in terms of connections. Turns out i need a DVI-to-HDMI cable.

you will not get sound running through the DVI-HDMI cable tho.
So I hope your tv has a sound input to come from your sound card's output or you'll be using a set of PC speakers or other external audio.

the ATI Radeon HD range has its own soundcard built onto the board so when you transfer from vga or DVI output on your monitor to HDMI output, it automatically changes the sound output to ATI rear HD so your sound will be routed to the TVs speakers.

I have a 5.1 speaker system for my pc but not my TV so I'd prefer the sound to come from the PC. Or are you saying there'll be no sound at all?

no you'll still get the sound from your 5.1 speakers but the tvs own speakers will be silent.
