Hey all,

The last 2 days my internet has been causing me major hassle!
Basically every so often (at the mo its about every 10 mins) whatever page i go to starts loading up and then freezes, i cant refresh the page or anything just the eggtimer comes up and doesn't move, and i have to click ALt f4 or the x at the top of the page, it then shuts down the page and says IE explore has encountered an error, send error report or dont!

So i have tried system restore (Which won't work for some unknown reason)
I did a full system scan, no viruses found, only one adware which was deleted!
But its still happening...any ideas?

you can skin firefox to look like IE.

Wow you really are a fanboy. Internet Explorer 7 has tabs and has been out for like a year. So do some research.

Also Firefox is slower than IE.

Also try install IE from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

i knew that.

the OP also didnt tell us if he was running IE 6 or IE 7.

yes, im a complete fanboy. when in actual fact i run Safari on my laptop, Firefox and IE6 in work.

i also made 2 posts, one with a link to the mozilla website, second, me telling the OP that if he used FF he could skin it to look like IE and that he would also have the added benefits of tab browsing.

maybe you should actually try contributing to helping the OP which is what a few of us have done?
#15
have done now, thanks leefal! Will try again soon, im now off for a shower!

Might i add this is in no way related to sadiebabes
#16
Get yourself a reg fix prog like tuneuputils 2007 or something from here
www.majorgeeks.com

Un-install IE and then run reg clean prog and re-install IE.

Firefox is slower than MSIE7 hahahahahahahaha I think not.

Fighting is not good :) its almost christmas :)
#18
I use OPera myself. Its the ultimate lazyboy of browsers.

Well unless you've used my PC and my internet how can you say that? In my case firefox is a fair bit slower at loading pages.

cos its my job to know, your PC issues aren't my concern but fact is FF is faster than MSIE.

I've used FF for ages - when IE7 came out, I tried it out of curiosity (wondered what the tabs were like), it was like swimming in treacle compared to FF!:w00t:

So I'm a FF fangirl! :giggle:

Truthfully, it isn't on my PC, FF (version 2.0.0.9) is much faster :)

It shouldn't be. In its unmolested state, IE should load a good deal faster, and should also consume less CPU power and memory. If you ignore the matter of FF being nearly eight billion times more convenient to use, IE beats it hands-down.

Ok im still having the freezng problem, i have delted cookies temp internet files, got windows updates, done a full scan on my comp, and it still keeps on freezing on web pages :S

MSE have a brilliant 'Techie' board - post on there, they're really very helpful. If you're not a member there, say so and I'll post for you - but it's better if you post because, as they try to eliminate things, you can interact with them directly. :)

Might help if you run 'Hijackthis first, then post the results over there:

Have you tried running a malware program? You may have picked up something nasty on your travels thats causeing this! Have to agree with the other poster suggesting Firefox or Opera. I never use IE unless I have no choice!

lmao posting stuff that was out a year ago lol.

FF takes a little more mem usage, but don't install the google bar.
I have tweaked my machine and FF since you can't on MSIE7, my FF loads in 1/2 sec, my nominal number of processes on my PC is 26, removing some of the svhost.eve networking **** which runs multiple times. All non-essential process are stopped bar my bit-defender anti-virus. I also use a user switch agent to make the data packets look like IE6 for better browsing and microsoft compliance, ie hotmail etc. I have 'sniffed' the idle networking usage of MSIE compared to FF and the results for MSIE were less than impressive. I run a very tight ship on my rig, nuff said.

Firefox is more secure than IE as it's not as big a target for attack. Opera is even more secure.
I have used most of the browsers available today and find that Firefox works best for me! This is due to the amount of customization that can be carried out. It takes me a lot longer to do things on other peoples computes due to this.

I always recommend Firefox to my customers and will continue to do so!

Have you tried the fasterfox add-on? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269 it does a couple of tweaks to speed up FF. Although I would dispute the relevance of round up that was two years old when it was retired (I couldn't see a date for that so it's at least two years out of date at this point). Afiak rendering speed wise with the main four it currently goes IE < Firefox < Opera < Safari but I'm sure there's not much in it and I'm prepared to be proven wrong .

To the OP I'd definitely recommend Firefox over IE it's just so customisable via add-ons, is much more secure (only one FF security scare springs to mind, and even that was caused in part by IE :giggle:) and it actually complies to web standards unlike IE. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and IE7 rips off Firefox left right and centre but never seems to quite match it.

This may work, has in the past for IE:

1. Clear the cookies, files & history
2. Re-install IE
3. Reboot & open IE
4. Set the security option to default
5. restart IE

An old tweak for the firefox peeps:

1. Start Firefox.
2. In the Address Bar type about:config and press Enter.
3. In the filters bar type network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server and double-click on it.
4. Increase the value to something a little more reasonable, I changed mine to 30.
5. Works for me :)
