... sometimes when using my laptop, it seems to lose the connection to the internet and no pages open. At the bottom left of the webpage it says "website found. waiting for reply.." When this occurs I have to restart my computer and everything seems to work fine until this message shows up again. Any solutions to the problem :- I am running zonealarm firewall, avast AV, have a netgear router and I am with AOL.

Thanks

I use the laptop about 5-10 metres away from the router. It usually works perfectly for about 3-4 hours then just stops working in an instant.

btw it is a wireless connection.

Is anything interfering with the wireless. I've found my cordless phones and baby monitor interfere with my wireless confusing it. Also if neighbours are running on the same wireless channel that can cause confusion too.

you shouldnt have to reboot. The wireless icon in the systray (bottom right) should have an X appear on it when connection gets dropped. Just right click and select 'reconnect' (or similar).

But I don't think I actually lose connection. It stills says connected to home network, so I don't know whats wrong. :x lol

The primary cause to this could be with AOL internet,as i remember it happend to my friends. There was some problems with the exchange, and it took few weeks to fix it for AOL.Dont think it has something to do with computer or router as long as you can see you are connected to network.

There is nothing else wireless between my router and laptop. Only other wireless device in the house in my 360 and my nearest neighbour is 50m away.

did your friends have to contact AOL saying about this or did AOL sort it out themselves?

It doesn't happen when you remove a USB item or flash card from your PC does it?

My adapter loses connection with the router, when I remove USB or flash but stays connected on the icon at the bottom.

Are other things on the network still able to connect?

You should reset the router when it next crashes out as it could be that it is kicking you off the network just to confirm it's not a PC fault. You could maybe change the wireless to a different channel or assign your laptop a static IP.

They have contacted AOL,explained the problem and only then it has been fixed. But AOL is really slow with solving problems...

I think the problem was with my AV/ firewall as I uninstalled both a few days ago and installed mcafee and since then there have been no problems (fingers crossed)

Thanks again for all the help!!!
