Internet speed halved....Can anyone help

Ok since ive upgraded and received a new wireless router my internet download speed has halved.

Im on the same contract and cant understand why.

Im on on aol and have had easily over 6000kbps download speed before the problem.

The router is the netgear dg834g, wireless, on channel 11.

Can anyone help?

Ive phoned them up and being fobbed off with " your account shows your average download speed of 3mb", which is hogwash , ive had over 6 for 3 years before the upgrade and when i upgraded was told the most i could get was still 8mb tops.

Welcome to AOHELL as they say. I`m with them and since the dial BB update it`s been a nightmare. I can recommend the AOL message boards as they`ve helped me alot. As for the AOL helpdesk------forget it. They dont have a clue.

Any other help?, update doesnt seem to have helped.

Will getting a better router sort the problem out?, what n rated router do you recommend theporter?.

Have AOL maybe restricted the speed on the new router?

If you're using those sites that test your broadband speed then you should know they don't always provide an accurate result.

try plugging directly into the router with a cable to see if speeds return to 6mb/s. If they do, then at least you know its the wireless setup.
