Which Game?
What Position?
And who is the interview with? eg Manager / deputy / Keyholder.

I worked for GAME for 9 years with my last 2 years as a store manager

Dont wear a suit, go smart casual, no jeans or trainers though.

Im sure Game holds group interviews, to see how well you could work as part of a team.

The only group interviews are for Christmas temps and it is very laid back, if it is a permanent position, a shirt and tie is fine, if it is a position of responsibility then most definitely a suit.

A group interview? So I've effectively already got the job? Sounds more like an induction day to me.

I have a glowing proven record of working in a team so I guess that's gonna stand me in good stead.

GAME in Burnley, just as Xmas temp I guess, there was no application form, just with Xmas coming up I thought it would be a good idea to send my CV in with a covering letter. Not sure who the interview is with, got a text this morning saying I had been chosen for an interview on monday.

No we used to do group interviews to and choose 10 out of the possible 20 candidates. this way it saved a load of time at the lead up to christmas

with the hard times in retail at the moment, Game are very much target based especially with the "gamecare" they offer. Read up on gamecare and point your strengths towards the opportunity of selling the benefits of this service.

Reward cards are a big push for game too which is also targeted.

There is one line you need to remember!!

SELL AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN.

with a Christmas temp job they need to know you intend on a permanent position after Christmas.
I never hired anyone who just wanted a job for Christmas.

Hope this helps

Mainly just role play on selling and customer service i know it's hard but confidence is a sure winner as all you ever do is deal with the public

What did your group interview consist of mate?

Argh...big day is here and if I said I was a little nervous I would be lying.

Really not sure what to expect, haven't been told whether its one of these group interviews or a 1on1 interview. Damn!

When I interviewed Xmas temps for GAME we basically picked the people we liked. The boasters and loud mouths got dispatched. The way they dressed had nothing to do with our choice unless it really aggravated us.

Attitude is everything and game product knowledge is not. They won't expect you to know anything about Gamecare in the group interview. More than likely you will have to do an introduction to the group and some observed group tasks. Speak up but also listen to everyone, ask plenty of questions of the staff and build a rapport with them. Be as likeable as possible and say you can work any hours (even if you can't). GAME managers are lazy and won't do more interviews if you turn out to not be able to work the hours you said. They'll just shuffle you round.

Most important things - don't have a body odour problem, shabby beard (unless it adds to your persona), don't be late, don't have any annoying twitches or mannerisms.

Cheers for the help.

I don't have any annoying twitches or mannerisms but surely thats quite discriminating?

I kinda get the jist of gamecare and the reward card so thats not too bad. Observed group tasks? You have any examples? Also, what kind of questions could I ask, this whole group interview is quite new to me and I keep getting it into my head that its gonna be like sitting in a classroom.

There was no set structure to group interviews when i was there, it was made-up by the deputy. Gamecare is just an extended warranty. Reward cards give you 2.5% credit on what you spend and allow pre-orders and double points when buying pre-ordered stuff.

An example of a group exercise we did was to give them a big piece of paper and pens and come up with a game idea and then pitch it to everyone. I doubt you will get any 1-on-1 questions, probably just fill-in a form that they will look over later.

If you get into conversation with the staff there, you could ask about what consoles they have. Pick the geekiest one, he'll be showing off most and will love to talk about himself.

More than likely, the manager will want to go home as soon as possible, so it won't be long. It's different for each store.

This is my first 'interview' since being made redundant january just gone and the nerves are getting the better of me. I feel like locking myself up and not showing my face but its me thats gonna lose out in the end. Feel like all my confidence has been drained with not being able to find work for so long.

Its at half 4 so that makes it an hour before closing time, the shop itself isnt huge so I guess we'll be in the back. Not looking forward to it one little bit.

How did you find out about your interview mate?

Im not sure if it is a group interview, I got a text rather than a phonecall/letter/email, so led me to suspect a text is easier to send in bulk?

They phoned my mobile and left a message on my answer machine to call them back, I phoned and the time that they wanted me in wasn't any good too me so they moved my interview time to Friday last week... They never mentioned a group interview... must be up to the branch as to what type of interview that they do?

Interview was quite relaxed... just asked the usual questions... when have you ever went out your way for a customer, how would you feel about being on your feet for 8 hours working in a busy shop... Do you think you could cope with a busy shop over the Xmas period... Luckily I worked in a supermarket before so hopfully that went in my favour...

I'll have my fingers crossed for you.
