Interview @ Nintendo

I like to cut a long story short so here goes.

I applied for a job as a Video Games Tester in Germany back in April, got a couple of e-mails back but nothing positive, then all was quiet.

Anyway, yesterday I recieved a phone call from Nintendo (Alpha - people who hire for nintendo), I was told that there was a vacancy available bur I'd have to do a test first and would I be interested, if I pass the test I'd have to go to Germany on Friday and have an interview.

If I'm successful in the interview then I start work on Monday.

at the time i didn't take the start date in, so I did the test and sent it back (had 1 hour to complete it, only took 10 - 20 mins). I sent it back, and recieved a phone call today saying that I was successful in the test could I ring them back.

Well now the shock has worn off slightly and I have realised I can't just drop everything and live in Germany as of Monday if my interview was successful, which was expected of me, I rang them up and explained the situation.

They weren't happy to say the least I was narrowed down to 4 applicants...

Trail of thought has gone now, I sent an email appologising for not taking the interview due to the short amount of time they gave me...

bit down now, may have been my ideal job although the pay £948/month after tax is less than my current job and ebay.

Deep down I believe I have done the right thing, I have gf that i've been with for over 2 years who is at uni and I can't just up and leave her (thats another reason for not going, not the main reason)

Another example of how you should think things through beforehand - I personally dont see why it has to be in germany - Are there really that many games to be played that you couldnt do it around your other job (not that I expect nintendo to revolve their world around you)

its probably a security reason for why you can't take a game out of the tesing office, you know these dodgey people who hack things and make sly "backups"
#3
I wouldn't worry about it. You can use the experience for your next interview. I'm sure there's not a lot of people who can say they've been shortlisted by nintendo is there?

Your possible future employees would be blown away by something like that.

£948 a month! That wouldnt last long on HUKD!

Yup as scouser says, everyday's a schoolday and you've got one more impressive thing to go on your CV :)

You've done the right thing, if you'd have gone you'd have missed your gf and would've had to leave behind everything for a job that doesn't pay that great... there'll be other jobs hun :)

AND now you've got a great way to win every argument you and your GF ever have... if she gets petty just say
"I turned down a job with Nintendo for you"

I earn less that that a month - you make it last by living within your means.

All Nintendo games for Europe are manufactured in Germany so i guess they keep everything based there.

But as you say, it's not worth the upheaval for £948 p/m. Most jobs pay more than that here.

But most jobs here don't involve faffing around playing video games all day and being paid for it...

if your happy where you are then dont move, im sick of moving house, moved 8 times in my life and im only 17. you have to weight up the positves of going to germany and the negs you probably find there were more negs :)

I know someone who used to be a games tester and he says it's the most boring job he's ever had. It's not all it's cracked up to be, you sit there playing the same small bit of game (not often the whole thing) over and over again looking for bugs. :-(

Can you actually speak german? If not then you definatly made the right decision.

If it was me I would definitely take it and drop everything if I was single. Would love to head off into the great yonder, would love to work for Nintendo for even a brief time in my life - despite the lowly pay packet I'd love the experience.
