Interweb options.. no phone line.. dongles best/worst

The bird is moving to a flat that has no phone line, and so as she is a poor penny-less Civil servant.. she needs the best option for connecting her pre war computer to the interweb..

can the good users in Misk give her the low down on what's and who is the best provider to go with..

As she is addicted to facebook., and sending a zillion emails or so, like most birds its got to be the cheap options...

rep and abuse for best options

Are you planning to have Sky? I went past someone promoting sky in town yesterday and the poster said they would fit phone line for free. Don't know if its any use to you but could save some money.

I think we have different meanings to the word nork (or at least I hope so)...should we say, a very over energetic session of 'rear' sex without the use of lube!

Have you had a look at any of these? http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/dongle?WT.mc_id=ConMobNePai_2320&WT.srch=1&cd_source=Automedon&fromaffiliate=19

Some others here.http://top10.com/broadband/compare/dongles/

If she spends a lot off time surfing and sending emails she may need to go for the higher usage.

It will depend on the signal in your area DC, up the road from you (literally) T-mobile is crap for 3G but vodafone is ace.

I would look on a couple of networks sites and see who has a high 3G signal in her area, then look at their dongle offerings.

I went with vodafone which was 1GB of use for £15 and no expiration of credit but they recently changed this (with new dongles). All of the PAYG ones now only offer 30 or 60 day credit, it might be better to go contract but it depends on how long she will be without a phone line as a dongle can get expensive.

BT keep doing offers of free line if you take out a 18 month contract (or something similar)!

Phone them up and have a chat, e.g.we are looking into broadband, phone and tv (bt vision) qith you but the cost of a new line is putting me off. Is there a way we could have the cost halved etc

Be nice and you might get lucky, I always ring the Scottish call centre (fault line) and get put through to an english speaking person to deal with :-D

edit - I was using my dongle for about 8 months, and was using it upto 10 hours a day and only had to top it up about every 3 weeks or so. If you're not downloading / watching videos then the credit will last a while

Virgin Media do their broadband without a phone line.

It's £15 for the first 3 months and then £20 a month. This is for 10meg.

I also know that meaning :p Been around a long time, but I prefer my version! Then use knockers, juggs, or my personal favourite is just breasts. (not to be confused with chicken though).

Or of course ask the neighbours! Our neighbors in our student let asked very nicely until they got their internet installed could they leech off of ours. A bottle of vodka later...we agreed, and they had it for about 2 weeks and they paid us a bit towards it to say thanks.

Lol! I'm happy with it as long as they dont go any lower then a DD, but I reckon it would be an DD or E they would be reduced to anyway. But they hurt her back at times and her health is more important and for her to be more confident of herself as well.

BT Talk & Surf Package

Line rental
Inclusive Weekend landline calls
Broadband with a 10 GB limit.

£26.03 inc VAT
£19.0 for first 3 months
18 month contract

If there is no BT line in property say you want the free connection offer as you've seen it on MSE and they will oblige.

Home broadband will be so much better than dongle.
#38
As has been said, their is no phone line required for Virgin Broadband, and they will do free installation when you take it out, and it's only a 12 month contract. I get 20MB for £30 a month, but there is smaller packages.

A BT line, on it's own, will cost £12.50 a month, and then you'll have to pay the broadband charges on top of that.

A dongle is designed for occasional use, and not for a everyday connection.
