IP Address help? Does anyone know how this works?

I have read online how to change my IP address using command prompt, what I need to know is does my wireless router have an IP address that other computers can see?

I recently had my ebay account suspended for receiving 2 unpaid item strikes (totally not my fault am disputing with ebay), however my friend has said I can use his account but I don't want ebay to know it's someone that's suspended so need to change my IP address etc.

Any help would be great, thanks

You're talking about your external IP not your internal IP... you can't change the one your ISP gives you unless it's a dynamic IP in which case restarting the modem will do the job!

if you try to open another account on ebay using the same computer or even sign in using someone elses account u risk that account being suspended also within a week i would think

eBay now track people logging on to their accounts by computer name. It is aimed more at preventing people hijacking accounts by checking if they are logging on from different computers.

There is nothing wrong with using your friends account to buy or sell as it is that account which is active and ebay cant tell who is sitting in front of the PC so you're fine there.

In answer to your question the IP Address that is assigned by your ISP to your modem cannot be changed unless its dynamic and a simple reboot as previously stated will change it but is irrelevant in relation to your ebay issue.

Your routers IP shouldnt be changed as it can cause other issues if you use other devices connected to it so you should leave that alone. No other computers can see your router unless its an unsecured wireless network broadcasting its SSID. Unfortunately your IP Address must be shown to other computers on the internet otherwise how would any web pages/emails etc know where to go when they're on their way to you. If you're set on masking your real IP then you could use online proxys but its not really worth all that hassle in relation to your ebay issue, as stated before, ebay dont know who is sitting in front of the computer so anything else doesnt matter.

Cheers.

They've done that for years.. me and a friend sold a few bits and bobs between us on one eBay account, and one day he recieved an e-mail asking to change password because of logins at another location, being my house. Must have been because we were logged in at the same time because I use eBay at college, at work, on my phone, at home...

no, as that would mean a 'family' pc would not be allowed to service several family users, which of course ebay does
