IP addy, can it be cloned or misused?

Have a friend who posts on an entirely different forum to this one,no gain,no for sale etc, just general chat,

He's been accused of using 2 different id's by admin,he's adament that he doesn't have 2 id's registered and there is nothing to be gained by having 2 id's except perhaps to stick up for yourself if an argument started,

Admin have said the 2 id's are using same ip addy and I'm just wondering how this could happen, would it have to be another user in his house connecting to same router or what?

Yes, people clone Virgin/NTL modems to sell/get free internet. These use someone elses IP.

It's someone I trust 100% so how can he prove to admin on his site it wasn't him under 2 id's ,or can he not prove this
#10
can he prove it? or will admin assume no proof,so therefore guilty,it's a tiny forum, just local interest really, like a club,no one outside the general area would register

I thought the Cable modems were cloned based on MAC addresses?

Unless you have a static IP, the ISP will assign you a random IP.

Can I ask? Who gives a crap if you have multiple login's? I have signed up a number of forums with multiple user's.

Well you stated you had done it on other forums, and what would they care. Just pointing out that multi's on this forum get banned...
Thus some forums do take multi's very seriously.
