iPad..... Is this a good deal?

I just rang three today to find out when my mobile contract with them was due to expire as its quite soon. (June 15th to be precise)

Anyway.... i said that I was looking to cancel when the time comes and in true three fashion, they started offering various options which included their new 16GB dongle, netbooks, laptops and tablets.

Their price for the Galaxy was way OTT, but the iPad deal didnt seem too bad.

64GB iPad 1 3G for £129 - with a monthly £25pm contract and 15GB allowance.

I currently pay £8 for 5GB, so its fair to remove that from the price, so effectively £17pm for a 64GB iPad

I hate iTunes with a vengence, but this didnt seem too bad and a bit tempting. she was also throwing in a MiFi and the new dongle FOC.

The 32GB iPad 2 3G worked out the same per month, but payment of £249 up front. So £120 more, but 32GB less, but newer model.

Thoughts?????

(Other than derogatory remarks about iPads and users being sheep - oh wait... thats my line!) ;-p

15GB allowance per month? 24 Month contract?

Also, I use iTunes to sync initially, then never use it again except for upgrades

lol of course its 15gb per month! And yes, the sync issue is less of a problem with an iPad (otherwise id not even contemplate)

edit.... Oops... Yes its a 24 month contract.

I would get the newer iPad. Just for resale value at the end of the contract (24 months?)

The prices don't sound too bad, but I guess you have to ask yourself what will the companies be offering in 12-18months time as a comparison (I think its safe to say that within 12 months there will be many Gingerbread tablets that make the original iPad look distinctly average\dated in terms of features and also provide decent competition for the iPad 2).

Will you likely use 15GB per month (ie over 7.5GB to make it value for money and as close to 15GB as possible) - if so, its probably not a bad deal, but if not the draw of paying £25pm for 3 year old hardware and an unneccessary amount of mobile data might be a bit grating in 20 months time..

In real terms, whats better about it to justify?
?

Being thinner and camera are irelivant to me. Speed is an issue, but ive not seen massive noises on thst front.

The bigger apple logo looks good though..... Oh wait!X)

To be fair, youve summed up my thoughts! Though of course i should be looking at it as not a burden for 24 months, but repaying a loan at a heavily subsidised price.

Don't underestimate the better speed; having increased graphics and dual-core CPU will become more relevant than it currently is in a few months time (with future OS releases and software designed for the A5); this tallies with both Apple and Android designs...

Go for the newer ipad. The dualcore will come into it's own, the ipad 1 only has 256MB ram so struggles with webpages more than an iphone 4 does.
