iPhone 2G repair - advice please!!

Ok I've got a cheap iPhone 2g that has a cracked screen and I'm going to have a bash at repairing myself!

The glass touchscreen is broken and it looks as though it's a (or was!) a double layer of glass - is that right?

Anyway, when the phone turns on the actual picture is absolutely fine with no bleeds or anything.

But the touchscreen doesn't work.

So what exactly do I need to buy please?

Any advice/help greatly received!

my husband dropped his iphone and smashed the top screen, touchscreen still worked and screen wasnt damaged, i got a new glass and screen off ebay for £8, quite easy to replace. I followed instructions that were posted on youtube, have a look - good luck

Yeah I've got a new glass front but I think it's literally just the glass front as there's no connectors. So before I start spending on eBay, I want to ensure I'm buying the right thing!

it's very easy to fix, probably the easiest thing to do on an iphone, you will get a set of tools with the new digitiser (normally), unscrew the 2 bottom screws either side of the dock, use a sucker and put it near the home button, pull up gently the screen will move up, disconnect the 3 ribbon connectors and then replace with the new screen, replace the 2 screws.... thats it!

No, this is more tricky, you've bought just the digitiser and not the complete unit, this is a bit fiddly to change but still fairly simple.... do look at the videos on youtube to see it you're comfortable in trying it....

Bikerjodie - so let's disregard what I got with the 2g. Should I just order this and if I don't muck it up, that should be it? eBay : 170600322964

if you're comfortable with repairs then yes go ahead, i've changed a digitiser on a 3g and the first time i wrecked the new digitiser, you have to take apart the lcd from the digitiser whilst being careful of the 3 flex cables, you have to peel away the faulty glass very slowly and be careful round the home button as the flex is on the left hand side (if you're facing the phone's front), i've managed to snap a few of these too!
Just take your time and you'll be fine, keep a nice clear table to work on as you'll have tiny little screws lying around (not much bigger than a speck of dust)

I was thinking this though, it's alot easier as it has the lcd already there in a full assembly.

Ok, but take into account postage both ways too and weigh it up...
