Let O2 do it... They charge £15 and it is officially unlocked so you can do software updates etc without any risk to the phone.

You have an iphone and you're baulking at the thought of paying £15 to have it officially unlocked?

Plenty really, you can upgrade with ease and it's 'officially unlocked' so worth a lot more.

Then you can jailbreak it for apps etc.

If the phone was previously used by someone on an O2 contract, they can get it unlocked for free via the O2 website. That way it is official and costs nothing.
