  you need to give us more info for us to help
  what software version was the iphone on?
  was it running the ipad baseband hack?
  what error code comes up in itunes?

  if its running the ipad baseband hack youll need to use custom firmwares to restore
  i havnt ever had to use them so cant advise any more

  connect to itunes - sync the phone whilst holding the home button do not depress ( if that doesn't work hold power button and home button at same time do not depress sync with itunes at same time )
  
  i had this issue when i semi bricked my phone
