Hey guys just been looking on the forum here and notice some threads about Apple replacing your phone at a genius bar if it has a crack in the casing and within warranty? I have about a 1cm crack coming from each end of the charging port and don't want it to get worse!
My 3GS has warranty until July so better try it before than after. But I bought the phone via free ads so will that make the possibility of a replacement difficult? I have the full box and accessories and a handwritten receipt.
Have a store nearby so thinking of booking an appointment.
Thanks for any help! Know most people are asleep so will bump this tomorrow! :)
Have a great weekend all!

Where you bought the phone from will make no difference.

I had a second hand 3g with a similar problem last year. Made the appt, went in, they looked at it for 10 seconds and then gave me a replacement. Service was first class. Didnt want any documentation at all.

Take it to a Apple store and they will most likely swap it for a replacement - they did with mine that had same crack. It's a known fault and the girl mentioned that they would of replaced it even if it was out of warranty (as long as no signs on user damage that is).

They can tell how old the phone is by date of activation from iTunes so you don't need a receipt - she didn't ask for mine.

Just be polite and pleasant and I bet you will get a goid result!

Apple are pretty good when it comes to case / port cracks. If the phone is in tip top condition you'll have no issues but if it looks rough they may refuse the exchange. See this in store when I had one of mine changed over for the same thing.

As stated above no receipt will be needed as the apple warranty database will confirm if its still in warranty, what I wouldn't state though is that you bought from the first user as warranties are non transferable in any case.

Applecare protection plans are transferable.

Normally warranties are only given to the original purchaser, most companies have this term / clause within their warranty T&Cs. I know Samsung for one are strict on this. However, Apple are pretty much customer centric. After just checking the latest on this issue the warranty is on the device itself so they would honour anything provided the device is under warranty.

They didnt have any white 32gb backings in stock when I went in so I asked for a black one then.

I got a very prompt no, and was told to do it online. First time I've had a 'bad' experience with apple =/

Oh right. I forgot to update this! Got it changed instantly. It was so easy. Even though the cracks were tiny.
