iPhone 3GS Help

I bought a iphone off ebay and well when I put in my O2 sim it says o2 with no bars sometimes or sometimes it just says no service.
when I turn it on it says stuff like waiting for activation etc.
Is there some sort of activation or something I need to do before putting in a normal (not iphone sim)?
Or is this phone stolen and I should send it back because the item description said nothing about it not working or having this "problem"? Thanks!

I sometimes have the same problem with my orange phone. Its not an ipone. I put it down to network issues and reception problems. If its stolen i doubt it would work!

Have you tried connecting it itunes? Thats how youd normally activate an iPhone.

And then what do I do?

Should take about a min and activate automatically. Then try reset network settings.

If that doesnt work, restore it.

And if that doest fix the problem let seller know.

Tried all that and nothing still. I have she told me to send it back but i'd rather keep it if its not blocked?

Doesnt sound like its blocked.

Did you restore with a custom firmware or official? Isit jailbroken?

Have you ever been able to get reception with it?

It gets one bar sometimes.
Its 3.1.3
What would it be if it was blocked?

Well if its had reception is defo not barred. When its barred I think it says iPhone disabled.

Id try restore it again and set it up as a new phone. If that doesnt work you'll have to send it back.

You could try making a Genius appointment to take it along to your nearest Apple Shop as long as you're absolutely certain that the phone isn't stolen/barred.

They should be able to sort it out for you or tell you how much it'll cost if it needs repair.

Is your sim card an i_phone sim card? I'm pretty sure you need to activate the phone using an i-phone sim card, once activated then you can put in a normal sim card.
Was the phone sold as new or used, once activated then it shouldn't need re-activation.
O2 have changed their service settings since new year, go on to their website and see if you have the current settings.

its used I've just had a chat with O2 and they've checked it for me and it is indeed barred and he has told me to send it back! I've now opened a paypal dispute and will post it back on saturday!
Very annoyed! She kept saying it still works theres nothing wrong with it etc. and even sent it without the charger saying the charger broke!
PATHETIC!
Thanks for all the help repping you all!

My brother in law said that too. Id be wary off sendig it back to O2. If it was stolen it wouldnt work at all. If you do send it back get a reciept or you might end up losing out. Good luck sorting this one out. If you have an O2 shop in youre town, you could try taking it in there.
