iPhone 3GS Pay as You Go

Im contemplating purchasing a 16gb on Pay as you go from O2, i bought a 2nd gen 8gb touch about 6 weeks ago and i am addicted to the thing but would love to be able to be connected to my email and internet all the time rather than just when iam within range of an open wifi conntection or know wireless networks,

The price from O2 is £440.40 plus free unlimited web and Wifi for a year, then £10 per month thereafter, after looking at the price for pay monthly the cheapest is about £90 plus £30 per month for 24 months or £180ish plus £30 per month for 18 months, so as im not a huge minute user surely its worth the initial outlay as its going to cost me at least £650 over 18 months on pay monthly,

It seems worth it or am i missing something?

i went the payg way as i dont use the minutes worth every penny dont forget quidco for a bit extra through apple

Thats what im thinking, are you able to access email, internet all the time, or is it just open networks etc, as i read on the O2 site:

*Unlimited data and Wi-Fi applies to use in the UK only, subject to excessive usage policy. Unlimited Wi-Fi is available at any of the Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud or BT Openzone. Terms apply

So didnt know if that meant you could only connect in reach of a network?

Let me know would be really interested:thumbsup:, im still looking for the catch atm as i cant see (apart from the inital outlay) why people would go contract if they are light users when PAYG seems like a much better deal, just need to know if you can access emails etc everywhere not just within reach of an open zone,

you can connect 24 /7 using wifi at home wifi hotspots outdoors or 3g or edge outdoors if thats what you mean :?

Yes thats cleared it up for me, so do you think its a good deal (if you are not a heavy call user?) also rep left:thumbsup

Enjoy unlimited free UK minutes to O2 mobiles and standard UK landlines from your chosen postcode when you top-up £30 each month

Means you gotta top up £30 a month - why not just get a contract

I wish id not signed up to my contract £15 a month free 5800 and its 24months - rather pay £40 a n get the iphone

Data usage whilst roaming not included. Unlimited Wi-Fi is available at any of the 7,500 Wi-Fi hotspots from our partners The Cloud and BT Openzone. Excessive usage policy applies.

So the free net is only when youve got wifi connection

Hmm, thats what i was worried about, so going PAYG wont let you roam the net or accept emails built into the price:x

Nope the job lot is included free Internet inc 3g yes payg is the 1 for you if you don't use the minutes like me

Im more confused now (it doesnt take that much) so in Laymans terms do i get the exact same functions (apart from the minutes etc)f i by an iphone PAYG as if i buy one on contract?:?

I have an iphone 3G on o2 PAYG. I am so pleased I didn't get contract. I top up £10/month and I get:

Free internet browsing in the UK (whether it's 3G, EDGE or dialup speeds it's all included) (which you can use to download emails) for 12 months
Free wifi - such as The Cloud and BT Openzone - for 12 months
Free 500 mins of calls to o2 and landlines from my postcode - works a number of miles away as well
10% of my top ups back every 3 months
Free surprise whenever I top up (like free calls or free texts - top up over £15 and get a better surprise)
I buy my top ups from eBay with at least 10% discount - £10 is normally about £8.50 - £9.00
A free treat every month (after 3 months of being a customer) this month it is free texts between 7pm and 8pm

To answer you question about usability - you get 100% of the functions of a contract iphone. The costs of the internet browsing/email downloading etc is included (for 12 months it's free) - they call it free web and wifi, so you can also link up to The Cloud and BT openzone wifi spots for free too.
The benefits of the contract iphone include: convenience, the itemised billing, the benefit of staggering the cost over 18 months avoiding the initial outlay cost of the phone, no worry of running out of credit, business customers who need bills to submit for work tax reasons etc.
But for me, the PAYG is saving me a lot of money in the long run and I get to control my spending without any loss of usability. I am very happy with my package and just wait till I get home to call people if possible and wait till 7pm to text people - simples.
