Hi all

Right I went out the other night and I met this guy in the pub he was selling a iPhone 4 16gig for £200 I was drink and fort it was a really good buy I got it maybe bad idea when I woke up I had a little look at the iPhone and it was still boxed at this time I am thinking a really good buy but the is a catch lol there always is

My friend who was out with me said that he was later told that the guy who sold me it there nocked off great he also said that it will be blocked or blacklisted if knot already. What do I do I goggled it and some 1 said if I put it into iTunes apple will tell if it stolen

At the moment I am looking at a expensive brick lol

I was looking on the Internet and people swap iPhones that are blocked from other places like Spain but if you get a scammed not 2 times in the same year no thank you

I googled a little more and was told that the network it is no that will be blocked and the others will be ok so JB and ultraslow or something should work

Also something about changing the imie number to a old mobile but googled a little more and I can get in a lot of trouble for this

Please can any 1 advise me more on what to do I am SO so stuck I get the phone for my GF so she could have the same as me

Thank you again sorry about the long drawn out topic

Dear Internet,

I am stupid, please help me

Oh dear , you must of been pisshhhed, you gave a guy £200 in cash for a phone and never even opened the box to check it etc oO
#2
If the phone is blocked then sell it on ebay as you will still get more than £300 for it,But is it a genuine Apple iphone ?
#3
Changing the IMEI is illegal.
#4
ebay it but be honest bout it
#5
If it's not a fake then you have got a good buy.
#6
I think I will have to open the box lol but looks like it is a apple just unsure of selling it if the iPhone is stolen

Thank you for ya replys

Erm, unless I misunderstand, it seems the phone is probably stolen and the OP is fully aware of this. How can you recommend people trading in stolen goods, or suggesting they are a good buy?

Well the OP will never know unless they open it & it's possibly a Brick that's in the box.

sedd33

OP don't reply to Sedd33 as he's been knowing to give people info that can lead to them being scammed.

are you still drunk ? and ignore sedd33's PM

Indeed, but assuming it is a genuine phone - if its stolen, they can't legally sell it (or keep it) so how is it a good buy?

Why would anyone possibly be selling a legit, brand new device at well below market value in a pub?

Really? You must have been very drunk, but still sober enough to realise that £200 was cheap and able to complete the trade. What reason did they guy give at the time for selling them - lets face it, a pub isn't normally the place where you would go to buy high-end electronics...?

Fair point, but OP will only find out once they contact apple. It will be a insurers phone now & so the OP will have to return it to them or sell it on.

Again you are suggesting they sell it - if its stolen they cannot do this! Its a pretty serious crime, and I think given what they have said in this thread already I don't think they can really plead ignorance either...

You keep given false info about paypal & in the computer thread you where 100% wrong.
You also told someone last week to send a item to a buyer on ebay, but the buyer can't use paypal & the buyer was only 1 day old.

I certainly will do. Just point me to the posts where he did that.

Thanks for keeping us safe Captain Internet.

Ah, stop being such a little bitch. I know you two had a falling-out in his eBay computer scam thread, but carrying it over, making stuff up and then crying to teacher about it just makes you look like a moron. And besides, there's the old Glass Houses adage that goes here - what exactly was that PM you sent to the OP earlier? Trying to solicit stolen goods to change the IMEI and resell, perhaps?

To be pedantic; it doesn't. Nowhere has anyone confirmed that the OP's phone is stolen nor has WheresMeNuts specifically said "I can tell you how to unblock and or sell a stolen phone."

I just think sed33 is a bit mental

Phones are not always stolen if they are blocked are they ? If they are then ebay allows people to openly sell stolen goods ?

Sedd33 once again you have made yourself look stupid & a liar.My Link to the computer thread clearly states that I said "You can't lose if you make a claim within the 45 day rule" & guess what Sedd33....I was correct to say that as i & others who did claim in the 45 days where protected & we all got full refunds.

For anyone who has time & wants to read this thread you will see sedd33 make a idiot of himself & give False info to people like myself (thankfully I ignored him) & then when people who did claim in the 45 days said they had been refunded Sedd33 then refused to apologise.

You are on your way to becoming a legend on here Sedd33.

In the vast majority of cases they are phones that have been reported lost or stolen, yes. There are exceptions, but in this case from what the OP is saying, if the phone IMEI is blocked its fairly safe to say its stolen. And yes, whilst against their rules Ebay very much 'allows' people to openly sell stolen, counterfeit and non-existent goods, as for blocked phones they don't actively filter listings but rely on people to report them (see here)...
