From Redmond Pie.

For some iPhone 6S users, you might be entitled to a free battery replacement due to certain models having battery's that have poor life or the phone dies without warning.

So, what do you need to do? Well, you need to find out when your iPhone 6s was made, and here’s how you do it.

Step 1: Find your iPhone’s serial number. It’s located on the back of your iPhone, or if you’d prefer, it’s also found in Settings > General > About.

About-iOS

Step 2: Look out for the following characters, found in the 4th and 5th spot of your iPhone’s serial number:

Q3
Q4
Q5
Q6
Q7
Q8
Q9
QC
QD
QF
QG
QH
QJ
If you have a serial number including any of those, then you’re good to go to the Apple Store, safe in the knowledge that your iPhone 6s is one of the faulty ones and eligible for free battery replacement even if out of warranty. We bet you have never been so pleased to hear that!

Saw this yesterday, really pleased I did as my betters life on my 6s has been woeful and as out of warranty I almost took it to a local shop to be replaced for £20!

Mine does this but not on the list. Going to give them a call tomorrow as it's. It quite a year old yet

I have a Q8 serial number and my phone has been switching itself off at random times for the past few months. Can't wait to get this sorted and get a lovely fresh battery in the process! :D

not a deal?
please delete and repost in freebies or general?

Best news I've had all day :)
#7
Brilliant finally seen its a massive problem !
#8
Does that mean they keep our phones for a while, as the battery will be replaced or will they just replace the phones?
[mod]#9
Moved this to Misc as it's info / heads up

my daughter had this problem and her serial number is one of the ones affected but apple "ran some tests" and say hers isnt affected... it shuts down at 60-70% every time. i spoke with 2 managers who said i had to take it to a store.

i work with 2 people who had the same problem with affected serial numbers and apple say there is no problem.

i get the impression that apple are very reluctant to admit fault or blame.

Not sure mate, but willing to give my phone up for a few days if it means I can have an actual working handset

Yep I have Q9. I have a glass screen protector on and I think they have to remove it to take the screen out to get to the battery. Think they will replace it with an official iPhone one free of charge?
#13
I've got a QG and was told it can't be done because it's a 6s plus so only 6s I think

Does anyone know how long this will be on for? Let say you don't do this now... will you still be eligible in say 2 years time?

also does it apply for iPhone 6s PLUS models?

thanks for any help in advance!

I have an iPhone 6s and problem with battery draining, I been to Apple Store to check battery and they said they will replace my battery for free, they don't have battery in stock so they ordered one for me.

I managed to get my 6S posted to Apple, they wanted me to take it to a Apple store for diagnosis before they would do anything but store too far away for me and authorised Apple shop local to me said it would be 2 weeks before they even look at it, then it would have to be sent off to Apple for repair.
#18
They can run diagnostics if you ring Apple just an FYI to see if your eligible.

Yeah they did that, but still wanted me to go to a Apple store to confirm. This was a week and a half ago when I first found out about the battery problem.

I've had a 2 hour online chat with Apple support this evening, my phone is QG serial number that dies at 30/40% but according to Apple it's not on their battery repair programme, as its 2 weeks out of warranty it's either £246 for a mail repair or 140+ mile round trip to the Apple Store for an advisor to determine if it's a faulty model which they MAY repair under there supposed repair programme

I've recently had a replacement phone for the same issue however mine was not one of the serial numbers 'affected' it took a lot of argueing and phone calls to get a replacement. Just a heads up if your phone is one of the affected ones and the screen is damaged you will be made to pay to have the screen fixed prior to the battery replacement

I've got a QL, mine has this problem. Guess what it's not even on the list. Kmt

I got the very same response with my QG serial 6S but in the end I got mine sent off and now its repaired and awaiting dispatch.

Only real difference I bought my phone October last year.

If phones have the same serial number would that not mean they were made in same batch? Would there be a difference with phones made in Oct/Nov?

Well, overall I have always been pleased with apple support. I had 6s since February and had no issues whatosever until it went into the sink in August. Since then I got a replacement from Apple as my insurance paid for it. I was having problems with the replacement unit, camera taking minutes to load sometimes, very clicky and irritating home button and phone switching off at 20% sometimes. So I took it to the apple store (it was really busy on the day), and they replaced that unit with another one without running any diagnostics just inspecting the phone. Now, however, my phone turned itself off a couple of times for no reason too, the touchsreen was unresponsive after unlock for a couple of times too, and what is even worse is the fact that home button is clicky yet again and it is so irritating, it is almost as though you can click the button without actually pressing it. I am not sure whether home buttons are so unreliable and become loose after a month of use or something, bear in mind I have never dropped my phone ever. But the unit that I currently have does not seem to have a serial number of affected units. I still might take it to same apple store to see what they have to say about the issues that I am having as my warranty expires in 70 days.

Thank you thank you thank you OP! I have been driven mad by this issue with my 6S! I have tried every day for months to book an appt with a "genius" in the Apple Store local to me and have not been able to get an appt and then it ran out of warranty!!

Charge it to 100% then it randomly turns off! Did it one a day I was in Mauritius - fuming!

Thank you so much for this!

The program covers affected iPhone 6s batteries for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

Trust me peeps, apples customer service is far far superior to Samsungs. I was waiting over 2 months for my S7 edge to have a faulty graphics chip and screen fault repaired. They claimed there was a parts shortage (I checked no less than 5 different stores and not 1 had the parts in). It was only when I threatened them with court action that they sent me a new replacement, but I will never ever have another Samsung again.

While I was waiting I switched to an iPhone 7 plus. Much much happier with it! :)

Mine doesn't shut down, but the battery is terrible at times. A problem I have found is that mine just freezes for anything up to a few minutes at a time and becomes completely useless. Seems to have started since the IOS 10 update. I've checked and mine is coming up as an affected serial no. Do you think the freezing is anything to do with it?
