iPhone 8GB 3Gs - £420! iPhone latest OS - jailbreak

Hi all,

Just wanted to talk to you all about your thoughts on them discontinuing the 16GB and 32GB 3Gs and now only selling the "new" 8GB 3Gs for £420! which is mental as you can buy the 16GB iPhone 4 for an extra £80 ?

Also with the new OS 4, how long do you think it will be until these can be jailbroken for free apps ?

Thanks everyone :)

there is an iOS4 jb all ready for release after the fw is released, although it may not be compatible with the new iphones. (bootrom too small, etc)

One of the reasons I'm holding off selling my 3GS 16GB - I expect the prices of these units to actually increase after the iPhone 4 rush is over and done with.

Do you think this is actually true ? because I was thinking the same but then I thought to myself " nah I'm an idiot" haha
#6
also if I had a iPhone 32GB 3Gs with the latest fw and updated it to the iOS4 would there be a way of getting paid apps for free ?
#7
bit pathetic really, i got the 8GB 3G version on PAYNGO Release date (bout 19 months ago) and it was 349.99!

Depends if the network IPhone 4's are locked, otherwise it won't really increase as the 8GB 3GS is simfree.

Can someone please answer this as I am an apple and iphone neewb! - if I had a iPhone 32GB 3Gs with the latest fw and updated it to the iOS4 would there be a way of getting paid apps for free ?

No one on here knows. It's like asking for lottery numbers . When it's ready. If at all. Take your pick.

All the betas were Jailbroken and the Gold Master has also been Jailbroken. All you need is a developer account to get version 4 legit.

I've been running it for a while now

How correct you are once more my fellow iphone Oracle, yes with the addition of the new bootrom in the iphone 4 there may well be a wait for the JB however as a no intent on upgrading 3Gs owner I (fingers crossed kit kat stylee) will like most others be able to upgrade and JB on release of the new OS

Cheers JayBird and scottydont, you're a set of genius' ... so my 3Gs 32GB on latest fw can be put onto OS4 and jailbroke ?

I have heard rumors that the iphone 3gs will go significantly down in price when the iphone 4 comes out so i would not get my hopes up. And you would think that would happen anyway just like the previous iphones.

Btw, I have been told a figure but because its speculative i dont think it is worth saying just yet. :whistling:

I expect Iphone 4's will be stuck on eBay as unwanted upgrade's, which will go for what 400-450?

So older models won't fetch nowhere near this, an exception being the 32GB version, which might hit 400.

I have a 32GB 3Gs in Black, everythings perfect ... what do you think the worth of this is ?

And do you think its worth selling now ? or later ?

Definately now mate, if you leave it much longer it will only be worth less, Basically as soon as the iphone 4 is available the market is going to be flooded with 3g's and 3gs's and the prices will be much lower as there will be more to choose from than at present.

Na - that won't happen.. The general flood of iPhones has been, can see that from avforums.

The vast majority of people who purchased a 3GS will still be well within contract, so won't be able to get the iPhone 4 anyway.

Plus with the iPhone 3GS 8GB bein £419 - providing you have a good to mint condition iPhone 3GS 32GB, unlocked with a good amount of warranty left.. You should be fine at the £360 mark.. Been watching ebay prices, they tanked after the iPhone 4 was announced.. Went very low.. Now prices have been released, they've gone back up again. Talking between £370-£400 for an unlocked, mint condition 3GB with a 1 year + left on applecare.

Your 3GS sale price will depend very heavily on the condition and warranty remaining - if it's mint, unlcoked and you've got around a year left on applecare or something, people are going to buy your 32GB over an 8GB when you're selling it £60 cheaper. if it's got no warranty and is just average condition, it's gonna be much harder to sell it than it would of been before.

I reckon I'll sell my 32gb 3GS in Aug, in the process of unlocking it now via O2 in readiness.

Yerp good call

At the moment you'll only see 3GS for cheap because some people want very quick sales, as they've most likely just shell out £599 on their credit card for an iPhone 4 and need to secure back some cash :whistling:

ebay is always a good place to see what the going rate is, i just think people with 3GS in average condition and out of warranty are gonna find it tough to get a good price.

iPhone 3GS has the same CPU and GPU as the iPhone 4 (Since the A4 is just an A8 Cortex essentially), plus since no speed bump was hammered down our throats at the keynote.. I doubt very much they've clocked it much above the 3GS, or that it makes much difference anyway.. Otherwise you'd of had Steve Jobs using that in the media spin as he did for the iPad.

So users are getting the same "experience" with iOS 4 - just obviously lacking the pin sharp screen and extra camera boost.

I'm expecting the 32 and 16gb 3GS's to increase in value after the launch. I'm holding off selling mine (mint 16gb)

We will just have to agree to disagree then mate, in my opinion there will be a flood around the release date but each to their own, I do agree with your other comments mind

I think you may be right that in the first 1-2 weeks of launch - but it'll die off.

It is a mindfield though - you never know how the market will react 100%

Agreed mate, one thing that I do know is that the value on these devices is excellent even going back to the original iphone which were purchasable at £160 direct from O2 which I owned for 12 months and then sold for £190, ive even sold an original iphone that was water damaged, broken back cover and would not power on last week for £45 which is almost as much as fully working nokia's are going for.

I am getting my iPhone replaced on Sunday along with my headphones, so all will be mint.

Never had a replacement, are they unlocked because I don't like o2 and would much prefer having my t-mobile sim :)

Thanks you guys actually rule! haha - I'm 17 and I could do with friends like you who obviously know what they are going on about because I'm the one of my group of mates that knows all this but i tend to know it about android (owned the Hero) then reluctantly bought the iPhone a few days back :p

Thanks again :D
