Basically the other week I needed to update the firmware on my iphone cos a couple of the programs would no longer work with the firmware that was on my phone

so I pressed update firmware in Itunes, but this had the effect of basically wiping all the ziphone data off my phone and restoring it to factory settings

so at the moment I can use it but it doesnt have all the ziphone features which is a real pain

so I have been trying to jailbreak the iphone through ziphone today but Im having no luck at the moment. I choose the option "jailbreak" the iphone as I dont need it to be unlocked and it will start the process but will then stay at "entering recovery mode" and not move on from that. A pop up will appear in Itunes saying that this phone is in recovery and will need to be restored before it can be used. At this stage I've left the computer running but it does not progress and I end up cancelling the process, restoring the iphone and trying again

can anybody help me out?

new firmware always resets to factory settings, thats why it will always tell you to backup your info before doing it

yeah, the info is backed up, but the problem is that I can no longer access the ziphone features!

I don't have an iPhone (unfortunately) but I have been told that if you unlock the phone you can't update the firmware after that. I don't know if it's an urban myth, but several people have told me that if you try to flash update your firmware on a cracked iPhone, it will fry it for you.

Just a thought. It's for that reason that I haven't bought an iPhone, much as I want one. My company's on Vodadog and I can't use any other network.

So you know for a fact that you can upgrade a cracked iPhone? If so that's good news.

Do you know for a fact that you can without any detrimental effect, or are you just scoring points?

It sounds to me that gsettle24 has the iPhone 3G and he would be correct in saying that he cannot (software) unlock after upgrading to the latest firmware 2.2.1. However, roryk83 has the old iPhone 2G (because he used Ziphone to unlock it) and this is entirely hackable - http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/74278878/close-the-stable-door
So you see, I like to deal in the facts afterburner and not half-baked tales of fried iPhones if you'll pardon the pun. :w00t:
And gsettle24 you can still unlock your phone with this http://rebelsimcard.com/virtu/
