Thinking of getting an Iphone after messing around on one today & really liking it.

Whats the difference between 3G & 2G?

Whats jailbroke?

Do applications take up much memory? Ie, with a few gig of music will I need a 8GB or 16GB?

Whats missing with it? I've heard about MMS & video but understand you can get apps for this. Am I right in thinking it doesnt have bluetooth or Infrared?

Would be used as a normal phone & would like to use facebook/email on it etc.

Any thoughts welcome

Cheers

3g means faster mobile web surfing.

Jailbroke allows you to use any sim card, and add third party apps, change the icons etc

MMS is missing but will be added via the software update in june. Camera isnt great and no flash.
no cut and paste but that too is added in june.

16gb would be best bet just incase you increase your music or get alot of apps!

Facebook and email work a treat on the iphone.
I avoided getting one until i gave in recently and i have to say i absolutely love it!

Jailbroke allows you to use 3rd party apps, to use another sim you need to get the phone unlocked

Thanks for the replies.

So if I got a 2G, would it still be OK for facebook & possible youtube if I bought the Web bolt-on from 02? Or would it be noticably slow?

Can I use it at home with WI-Fi as well? Used my mates touch the other week wirelessly looking at youtube & it was great

Not really bothered about the satnav, I can always nick my dads for the day if I need a tom tom haha!

Bluearmy01, when you say bluetooth is in it but isnt utilised, does that mean that soon I would be able to use bluetooth? Regularly send pics & music between mates in college so could do with it really.

Been looking at the Tocco Lite as well which would save alot of money, going to have to go back to town & have a better look at them I think

If you have a little patience and wait to see if a new iphone is announced on 8th June then watch the prices drop as people want to sell to buy the new one.

I've just sold my HTC Touch HD in preparation.

New iPhone to be released on July 17 with OLED display?
While we know about all there is to know regarding the Palm Pre (including price and release date), official details about the other highly anticipated handset of the year, the new iPhone, are still missing.

However, according to the latest rumors, the next-gen iPhone aka iPhone 2009 aka iPhone 3.0 – call it what you want, its official name is not known anyway – will be released on July 17, coming with several nice improvements.

Apple iPhone Apps quotes a source “who is closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team” and says that the new iPhone will be launched on the mentioned date, in two versions: 16GB and 32GB (replacing the current 8GB and 16GB versions).

Furthermore, a full list of features is given:

OLED touchscreen display (the resolution is not known)
3.2MP camera with video recording (no Flash though)
GPS with turn by turn directions
Built-in compass
Google Maps, geotagging
MMS (pictures and videos)
FM transmitter
Powerful processor and double the RAM
Improved battery life

The new iPhone is said to have a sleeker design than the previous models. Also, the “metal band” that surrounds the current iPhone’s edge will be gone, and the Apple logo on the back “lights up”.

As for pricing, it’s said that the new 16GB iPhone costs $199, while the 32GB one will go for $299 (both prices requiring a 2-yr AT&T contract agreement).

All this info does not contradict what we’ve heard before about the next-gen iPhone, so it might indeed be legit. But, of course, until something official comes up, we can’t be sure of anything.
