Hi..

I bought an iPhone today (16gb black) and i would like to use my orange sim card with it as i am giving the 02 sim card to my sister..

However the man in the o2 store said that...

"by unlocking the iPhone, you will void the warranty"

Is there any way to use my orange sim card with the iPhone without voiding the warranty?

Simple answer is no! As soon as you unlock the iphone you've breeched the contract, therefore voiding warranty. There's ways around this though and loads of tips and stuff you can pick up by doing a bit of research on google...I've left you a link to a site I've used for ages with my iphone, it's really usefull and tells you pretty much everything you need to know about jailbreaking and unlocking, etc

Thanks a lot for the help mate..

Would you say unlocking the iPhone is worth the risk.. Because i will lose so much money is i cant get it back to a state that apple will replace it using the warranty.

No problem matey
I wouldn't worry about it...insurance covers you for all kinds of things ;-) have a look on the website I left and on google searches, there's tons of advice for you there. I unlocked and jailbroke my iphone within the first few weeks of having it and that was a while ago now. I've never regreted doing it

That's right mate ;-)
Just make sure you get some good insurance...I'm on the o2 premier and it covers you for just about any circumstance - £7.50 per month though

Lloyds tsb?

Yeah, good idea as you'll prob get more for your money with that. Just check what the details are with it (how many claims you can make, total value, what they'll cover for, etc)

the porter
firstly what fw is it running if its 2.2.1 it cant be unlocked presently due to the baseband, secondly whatever you do is reversible and it wont invalidate your warranty coz its all reversible ,your only thing is to use a rebelsim or something along those lines.

I dont know the firmware mate.. its charging currently.. I got it today? :?

the porter
if its new it will be 2.2.1 but just check in the settings on your iphone or itunes just in case

More info on this rebelsim mate...

Is it basically allowing my iphone to use the orange sim card without doing anything with the firmware or data on the iphone?

are u not better giving the orange sim to your sister and you going on o2 ?

Trust me mate is is very complicated and not worth explaining lol...

I just need to do what i said above..

More info on the rebel sim..

I think that seems to be the option... anybody help further?

the porter
might be your best bet to use a rebelsim untill the dev team unlock the current baseband

Rebel sim does not void warranty does it?

So i can just use this all the time if it works? :?

It would make sense because ideally i dont want to void the warranty.

the porter
nope it just slots in your simcard tray no warranty probs apparently it does but like i say i am not speaking from experience

Can anybody confirm that this doesnt void warranty and it works?
#14
It doesn't void warranty because you're not doing anything to the phone, the Orange sim fits in the the Rebel sim which than goes into the phone.
I've seen some posts saying that they don't always. . .

Hmmm... This seems the only option that i want to use though because it means the warranty isnt void. Have a look on my other thread about the rebel sim
