iirc your purchases are linked to your itunes account and not the ipod, so backing up (through explorer not itunes) and then authorising the account to the new ipod should transfer the purchases. if you don't back up the apps yourself they may not be available anymore on the appstore

Makes sense but how do you authorise the account to the new Ipod.

Thanks for your help Wolf I've got them all on. Once I'd found where the back up files where it was just drag and drop like you said.

You can restore the new ipod, as your old one.
