I've told my other half if hes not out of bed in 30 mins then I'm taking his poker winnings from last night and going out to buy me an Ipod

Only problem is I dont really know much about them and don't know which one to get

My old mp3 is really tatty as I use it each night to listen to audio books before I sleep.

It depends what you need from it? I have a 30GB ipod - does the job very well but now its full so I need a classic with 80GB storage

How many tunes do you want to store on it?

Nanos are smaller in size and capacity but do the same job. The iPod touch are very nice but the capacity isn't as big.

there was a good deal on the ipods where you got a free speaker system and 5% quidco at M & S online this week, think it may have expired now tho but worth double checking

How much can you spend?

well first think whether you want an ipod or an mp3 player.. both are very different..and for me ipod is usually hassle and a lot of computer time spent with itunes...

I would suggest have a look at a good Mp3 player, with video playback and ebook compatibility. Ebuyer has some good ones, the new cowon ones are good as well. The other option is to buy an ipod and load rockbox as a firmware. This makes it incredibly easy to use and doesnt create a mess with itunes. Though if you buy AAC tracks from tstore then rockbox wont work that well...!! Also rockbox doesnt work with the classics.. but will be fine with the 30gb...

The first thing ou have to decide if its an ipod or mp3 that you want. I have seen sooo many pple buy Ipods and then pull their hair out trying to work the ipod way!!!

I hate Ipods, they make what should be a simple task hasssle, drag and drop should be standard but apple have to do it there way its abysmal I had a 3rd generation nano but decided to sell it after a week.

Ipods are more of a fashion statement than a useful mp3 player.

yep thats true most speaker/charger untis are adapted for ipod to sit in nice and comfortably and even blend in well...having to connect a mp3 player via a cable just looks tatty and cheap...

honestly.. i dont know y there is a need or market for a "charger dock" or speaker unit.. headphones out and AA battery packs were alright before apple came out and made everything propriety... lol.. its funny isint it.. as a kid, all we had were a bunch of 3.5mm adapters and phone 2 to 1 adpaters, and you could connect your mp3/walkman/discman to anything anywhere... and now you have to have all this fancy dock business... i love the fact that my sandisk Mp3 player is simple and does everything from basics.. old school!!! and it probably plays more formats than the ipod.. thanks to rockbox!!
