Ipod sync question?

OK I just got my 1st Ipod - it's a 30gb video colour screen jobbie.

Now I have the latest Itunes and a load of music in mp3 if I drop say 8 albums on my ipod I then want to delete them from my laptop HDD and keep them on the ipod but then next time I sync to drop a new album on the ipod it deletes my other albums on the ipod & just leaves the new one on there.

Is there a way to do this cuz my laptop connects to my ipod and I have all of my music on my desktop at home but don't want to have to keep it all on my laptop as well just so it doesn't loose it from the ipod when syncing.

Did that make sense - I don't really want proper syncing just more of a drag and drop system?

Thanks,
worto.

hummmm that doesn't sound too promising......

I have to keep 2 copies of 20GB's worth of music then!

is it that you don't have sufficient space on your computer???

You can do it, but it's a bit of a hassle...

It's not really a space issue more that the laptop is a work laptop - it's fine to use for anything I like as I have full rights on it but dont' really want to use it to store 20gb's worth of music on it as I could probably be taken outside & shot for it.

You dont have to sync do you? what the ipod and computer do in sync is to keep your library synchronised so if you delete it it will delete if off your ipod. Cant you just copy/paste instead??

Just go into options and select to manually transfer item over. It wont delete your music then.

cool thanks - I found an option called - disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods - which seems to have done something along the lines of what I want.

I'll carry on playing and see if it's sorted it.

Cheers,

It's easy to fix, just right click the ipod in itunes and choose manually manage music, it's also in the options that appear when you first plug the ipod in if you have itunes 7 or later.

strange - I don't seem to get that option, The only thing I could find that sounded similar is this one in the options -- disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods.

I used to be an ipod hater too which is why I've only just got round to getting one, so far I'm quite impressed - just gotta bend this bl00dy itunes software into behaving as I want!

brill thanks - see what you can do.

I take it your talking about the iPod that appears in devices on the left - when I right click on that I just get the following options :-

Eject
Sync
Transfer Purchases
Reset Warnings

It's likely to be me, like I said I'm on day one in iPod land and am probably just confused :)
