OK, I know the main differences between gen 1 and 2. (ie better processor, external speaker, volume controls)....... but am currently looking on fleabay for some cases and screen protectors for the ones I gave to my littl'uns.

ie is the screen size exactly the same (ie for screen protectors)

are the ports in the same place (so I could buy a leather case and know the headphone socket isnt covered)?

cheers....

why dont you just buy the ones made for the gen you bought your little ones...

silicone cases are different, obviously second gen has the volume control button etc, but the headphone jacks are in the same place. Just search ipod touch 1g/2g cases depending on which one you bought.

Wow..... now why didn't I think of that! :w00t:

I'm aware of the volume control as indicated in my OP.... Ive also said the case wanted is leather. More often than not, it doesnt matter - and would depend on where the folds are.

It was however the position of the headphone socket and docking port - which I suspected would be the same place, but unsure. (Wiki-pedia was zero help!)

I'm just searching ebay. They aren't exactly helpful with descriptions and searches!

So are the devices the same size? Will the screen protectors I just bought (and marked as Gen 2 and 3) be ok on these? If you look on fleabay, you wont find anything marked as Gen 1 (so suggestion 1 isnt an option!)

There the same screen sizes so yes the screen protector will fit. And the device itself are the same size, the 2nd gens looked thinner because its curved. Or thats what i heard.

Cool.

So cosmetically, they are identical apart from the volume / mute control?

I just looked on fleabay again.

There are some that are showing 1G screen protectors (only) and others saying 1,2 and 3. Something isnt quite right. (They are either the same or not!)

For a leather case, it shouldnt matter that much tbh.

As already mentioned for the leather case there either will or will not be a slot for the volume buttons. But i wouldnt think there that important anyway.

As for the screen protectors is there a price difference as they may be trying to sell the 3rd gen for more?

If you read the Ipod touch bit it doesnt mention any differences in screen size, so i assume there is none as before.

I had already viewed the wiki site (as said - I couldnt see anything either) - but have just spotted this:

Dimensions 1st generation:
4.3 in (110 mm) (h)
2.4 in (61 mm) (w)
0.31 in (7.9 mm) (d)

2nd/3rd generation:
4.3 in (110 mm) (h)
2.4 in (61 mm) (w)
0.33 in (8.4 mm) (d)

So dimension wise, the only difference is 0.5mm depth.

As long as the headphone is the same place, all should be well for a leather case. Screen protectors for Gen2/3 already ordered via fleabay for 6p and 11p each delivered.

This leather case I posted some time ago is compatible for iPod Touch 2nd Gen and New iPod Touch 3rd.

That shouldn't affect the case or screen protectors though....... should it?
