i have an ipod touch, 8bg 2nd gen that i want to jailbreak

i need to know EVERYTHING! the risks, does it delete everything currently on it, what can i get out of jail breaking it, is it safe, were to download the stuff and how to do it please!! rep will be left

its currently running 2.2.1

did you pay for the update? or bittorrent it? also how would i download it from a torrent and put it onto my ipod? thanks

also what else? what can you do with a jail broken ipod, does it delete everything on the ipod? and anything else?

to get the firmware. go to google and search for ipod firmware. its the first one you see.

mines 3.1.2 and u press shift and select the firmware you downloaded

ops sorry. right connect your ipod and open up itunes. once you see your ipod on screen, it should say some thingrestore factory setting? something on those lines, hold Shift and click it then it should let you broswe for the firmware (the one you downloaded) then thats it for the update.

i dunno, i'm not 100% sure though, i used redsn0w on the mac i think, basically you install it, hook your ipod up then it'll give you step by step instructions...the hard part is knowing how and when to turn off/on your ipod. (putting it on some mode forgot the name sorry)

jailbreaking is more useful if you're a developer...or if you just want free apps. jailbreaking is like unlocking the ipod so you can customize and install and write you own apps thats not supported by apple. i think you should ask around and do some more research first :)
