Hiya,

For the past few weeks my Sky box keeps making a funny noise, abit like its cutting out. When I try and record something on Sky Plus and watch it back it keeps freezing and jolting. Anyone experiencing /experienced this?

Any advice welcome :)

It could be your dish/lnb it could also be some dodgy sectors on hard drive.

You may need to use the housekeeping functions on sky+ the rebuild planner option (some of these options will wipe out any recordings though so be careful what you choose or google for answers)

Accessed frrom engineer menu

"Services" then "4" - "0" - "1" then "Select" button.

Planner Rebuild is option 7

~Do a full reset if you do not mind losing any recordings you have

It might be static on the line, well, thats what sky tell me. Turn the box off, try unplugging the 2 cables which have the screw bits on and leave them out for 30 seconds, plug back in and turn box back on.

Does the trick for me but could make no difference at all for you lol ........

Worth a try .....

Do a planner rebuild and download the latest software, could be the hard drive on the way out but do as i suggest first as this could fix it.

This is most likely, and a new disc will solve the problem and is easily fitted yourself.
As above the rebuild might work, at least for a while. Make a note of your programs for recording as they will be wiped out of memory and need to be set up again.

Use this link for instructions on How To? It is very good and totally accurate.

My sky + box failed on me this morning, was getting really annoyed lol...I did a update on it and it worked after about 10 mins of the update being done.

It didnt delete any of my programmes at all by doing this but i pressed backup on the sky+ box and plugged it back in whilst holding back up, Hold for 10-15 seconds and you will see 4 lights come up on the front, let go of backup and it will come up on the screen about updates which could last 10 mins, it did it, i then left it off for a while the turned back on and it then worked fine :-)

Hi everyone...

Thank you all for your invaluable information... I might get the OH to call Sky tonight and see what they say. Failure to reslove the issue will mean that I will resort to writing to Mr James Murdoch ( Thanks Souljacker! )

I did that about a year ago and got my box replaced with a thomson one. Was really easy. They cant guarantee which one you will get, but just tell the engineer when he calls to confirm, that you only want a thomson one.
