Is Dell outlet any good? | Some PC advice needed please

Hi all,
I think i've just jumped into something head first :(
My daughter wants a new computer for xmas to use for the normal email/surfing and some gaming such as sims 2 / spore and sims 3 when it comes out next year.
Well, i saw a machine on the dell outlet site and bought it as knowing my luck someone would have nipped in and bought it first.
I'm now thinking that i may have made a mistake.
Does the dell outlet stuff come boxed and the same condition as it would if you bought it from the regular dell site?
Will this system be ok for my daughters needs? If not i'll try and cancel the order ASAP.
Inspiron 530s
Intel® Core 2 Duo E8400 processor (3.00GHz, 1333MHz, 6MB cache)
3072MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024 + 2x512]
500GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
256MB ATI® Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card

Thanks for the advice :)

It's 99% brand new really, I've had 3 systems from the outlet, including my current XPS 1330 and they were all brand new with all accesories and boxed in original packaging

I think the Dell outlet is great, I've bought quite a lot of machines from there now and quite honestly I couldn't tell them apart from brand new - they were all sealed and had the various protective elements across the top and palmrest etc.

The system you've bought has a weak graphics card which is not going to run games such as Spore that well without the resolution/detail being turned down somewhat although this may well not bother your daughter, I know many people who play these games at poor settings on integrated cards.

If you do want to cancel there is no problem, even if it has been dispatched. But as the bazz and John have said, if you are happy with the price I wouldn't worry about the product. My M1330 also came this route and I'm very happy with it.

OP we have had a couple of items from there no problems

We got a laptop for over £100 less than the dell site & you would have no idea it may have been anywhere but in your front room.

Hmmm. outlet. 6 weeks i have been waiting for my outlet system. usually good service, but when things go a bit bad...it goes downhill fast.

Out of interest how much was that system delivered - if you don;t mind me asking?

Can't say the main dell website was any better when dealing with a problem for a relation of mine.
The package was left with a neighbour (the relation was on holiday for 1 more day) and they did not receive a phone call to confirm delivery in the first place

i have never had a call to confirm delivery date. usually you dont i think unless its going to be different to what is stated on your ETA on the walshwestern site.

I'm looking to buy a cheap dell computer for my son for school, can someone please tell me where "the forums" are that people mention about the dell outlet? Can i get something for under £300 that would be good enough?

I'm not sure what you mean about forums, if you want to get to the outlet just go to the main site then Home and Home Office and look for Dell Outlet in the bar along the top. Follow it through to the machine you're wanting.

Is it a desktop or laptop you're after? Desktop would be easy for that budget, laptop more tricky although still possible (there's a couple there right now). The free delivery and 60 pounds off ends on the 5th so you need to be quick if you don't want to wait until the next time the offer is on.

sorry I forgot to update this message when I found the answer. I did a search on MSE and found the outlet forums are now called www.techforumz.com from outlet bargains.co.uk (they don't appear unless you are logged in it seems).

Thank you for your help. Its a laptop I'm looking for, so im going to have to look hard to make it on budget.

The system's not bad, the graphics card is a little weak but games like spore and the sims are designed to run on almost anything so it should handle them. The price however is a little high, I was thinking £250 would be a good deal, maybe up to £300. Considering some of the new dell deals like this one £385 for that is expensive, unless it comes with extras like a monitor or three year warranty.

Thanks all :)

Well i went ahead and cancelled so im still looking for a new machine for her.
I dont know whether to bite the bullet and get one now or maybe hold out till nearer xmas.
One thing is guaranteed though, regardless of what day i buy one there will ne a new post on here the very next day showing a much better deal than the one i will have got.
