is giving birth 2nd time round any easier?

im due my 2nd baby in just under 3 weeks and im starting to get nervous about giving birth now. my first labour went ok, no complications or anything. for the past month my visits to the midwife have made me more nervous as they say im measuring large for dates and they sent me for a scan couple of weeks back to make sure things were ok. im worried if i have to have a section. but ive heard bigger babies are easier to push out. my daughter weighed 8lb so i hope this baby isnt much bigger. did you find the 2nd time round was easier, quicker than the first.

you do get after pain which means when you have given birth it feels like you are going to give birth again so ask for some pain killer if you need them

poor you, i hope thats not the case with me. i cant really remember the giving birth to my daughter even though it was only last year lol but i remember thinking it wasnt as bad as i expected it to be. i was so scared last time and kept crying to my partner in the weeks b4 the birth.

My 1st baby all went well, he was 7lb 11ozs born 2 days early, my 2nd son was a different matter, 14 days over due, was started and had to have ventouse has his heart beat was going and coming back and turned out to be 10lb baby, the docter said they didnt know he would be that big even tho we had thought he was,

at the end of the day, most often...... no matter how painful it is we nearly always go on to have more. try not to fret about it and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy with plenty of rest if you can x

My 1st was about 8hrs start to finish. Second was 12 hours oO4 days jb22 ouch!

i started at about 1am sunday night and had my daughter 5pm monday, it felt like days as i had been up since sunday morning and me and my partner were knackered.

Erm no on both accounts. Mine did get a little bigger but not much. My heaviest out of 5 was only 7Lb 13oz.
My first 4 labours were ALL 5hrs 45 mins, Odd eh? But the last one was 1 hour.
It cant really be predicted. We are all different and each baby is different so you just cant tell.
I know a lot of women who have had very quick births with subsequent siblings.
Large baby doesnt mean more pain either.
You are more scared cos you know what its like now, thats all it is.I was terrified with my 5th. Made no sense what so ever lol
Good luck and hope at the end you have a lovely healthy baby.

I was just shell shocked for the first 3 months after lol! Was only 23 when i had my first, still felt like an inexperienced child!

thats what im worried about with them saying hes a big baby, it would scare me more if i was trying to give birth and then they had to do an emergency section or something. my nephew was pulled out with a venthouse i think, he had a cone head for a few days lol im just a born worrier and cant help but think about all the what ifs that could happen.

i will have a newborn and a 14month old, i can see it being hard work at first and very tiring, my daughter doesnt always sleep through the night so some nights i will have 2 to attend to, im just glad i have a good man who doesnt mind doing his fair share.

lol my fella went home for a sleep as he was knackered from being up over 24hours, good job my mum was there, we only live 10mins from hospital so my mum rang him when the midwife said it wouldnt be long before the baby came out.
#19
2nd was easier but after pains even tho bigger...3rd was HUGE and that fast the midwife laughed if she had come faster she might have stuck to the wall opposite oO
#20
Big difference fo me. 26 hours for the first and 1 and a half hours start to finish for the second and only just made it to the hospital on time! 2 girls both a similar weight.

mine got bigger and bigger

Far too much information! X)

Personally, I found my second much easier.

2nd time round you know whats happening so easier in a way cos youve done it all before.
Ive heard bigger babies are easier to deliver as they are stronger.

My 1st labour was 18 hours and she was 8lb 4 bang on due date, my 2nd was induced 3 weeks early and labour was about 12 hours but actually getting started was pretty much a whole day before i got pains - he was 8lb 5.
Maybe if i didnt have to be induced it would have been easier.

my second was a breeze

first was a 35 weeker and induction over 3 days of labour, started thursday morning he wasnt born till the sat at 11:23pm little monkey0 short story everything went wrong and we nearly died. had all the pain relief aswell lol

had my second 12months 18days after he was born, and she was a 37weeker induction again and i went from 1cm to holding her in 43mins shell shocked lol! only managed a little gas and air.

the after pains were a million times worse then the labour, they were a killer!

Oh mine got smaller aswell ds was 6lbs 2oz born at 35weeks
dd was 5lbs 9.5oz born at 37weeks

lol i will have to do it all on my own next year from april as my partner is swapping shifts to nights instead of 2-10, just so he can see more of us, as at the moment he only sees us for a couple of hours before he goes to work. plus it will be easier for me to fit in going back to work part time and we can spend more time together as a family.

when you say after pains do you mean pains when the after birth is coming out or pains after that. i think i had an injection last time to help get it out quicker.
#28
this babies a little wriggler, its starting to hurt a bit now when he tries moving about, i dont think theres much more room for him to grow in my belly lol
#29
I was induced with both of mine, and the 2nd was definently easier in respect that i had more confidence in myself, the situation and what was happening. 2nd time round was alot quicker and i felt like i was more in control... but like someone mentioned the after pains was alot worse with my 2nd, after pains came about 12 hours later and was bad but atleast you have your baby to look at and makes it all worth while!

did you find being induced made it more painful as thats what ive heard, it can make the contractions worse. i was booked to be induced with my first but she cam 2days before, probably as i was worried about being induced.

im not sure as ive not gone into labour naturally. But didnt find labour as bad as i thought it would be, dont get me wrong it was bad but was expecting it to be worse, i did have quick labours though - 1st was 8hr55mins and 2nd was 2hours 20 mins from first proper pains. The hardest thing with being induced was being monitored all the time, its so much easier to walk around (well i thought so)

I had a great pregnancy and labor with my 1st my labour was just over 4 hours.

With my second i had a awful pregnancy as they thought there was a chance he had downs as the nuclear fold wasnt right. My Labour was fab with him spent most of it in the birthing pool and gav birth in 2 hours :)

Was so much more relaxed with my second :)

they kept telling me to walk around but i just couldnt move lol i got off the bed and i just couldnt walk, i think this time i will stay in a chair before getting on the bed for aslong as i can. i had to have my waters broke and they put a clip on the babies head to monitor its heart as the other thing they used wasnt working and i swear the gas and air wasnt working proper as it didnt do anything for me.

ive suffered with heaadaches this pregnancy and last, nothing will get rid of them. ive not had any for a while but the last couple of days ive had one and all i want to do is go to bed but cant as i have to look after my daughter. i just hope they go after ive had my son.

Awww you only have 3 more weeks every pregnant woman feels so fed up at this point. Have you been offered the birthing pool ? honestly it is so relaxinf in there x
#37
from a husband point of view, they're all easy, ;)
#38
oooh i loved the gas and air X)....my huby and mum said i was shouting and talking slurred like i had been on the wine all day , lol

ive had both of mine naturally and had the odd hiccup with both , ist an episiostimy ( spelt wrong i know ) 2nd placenta was too far up and after an easy birth had to be taken to theatre to remove !

BUT !! as bitsey said earlier ...it cant be that bad or we wouldnt do it again !, lol................although i do remember getting my first contraction with my second child and saying to my hubby '' WTF...i forgot how painful they were '' lol..............dont worry op youll be fine ..............remember '' deep breaths '' X)

Hey, Forgot, Good luck...!!!

Truth is birth is unique, Everyone's different but somehow you manage it.

I'll never forget when my wife was in labour "I'm not having any more"

LMAO...!!!

Her first labour was about 24 hours, Second about 12 hours after being induced, Third about 6 hours and fourth about 48 hours...!!!!

Very close to c-section for our fourth, Was very very tired, She was stuck and in distress, I'll never forget big mamma, Her arms were the size of my legs...!!! She turned our daughter around and then she came out in seconds..!!! Was such a relief.
