Yeah it's pretty easy, here's the guide I used (i did it ages ago so not sure if things have been updated since).

Which linux distro are you thinking of installing I've got Fedora 8 on mine (just shows how long ago I installed it as I currently have Fedora 11 on my netbook), think I might see if I can put Sabayon 4.2 on it instead.

looks pretty nice when done, and well worth it

why would you want linux on a ps3 if you already have a pc?

What are the advantages?
And I didn't get that guide do you need to burn it?

Installing Linux will allow you to run word processors, databases, drawing programs, and "standard" browsers such as Firefox on the PS3, with a standard USB keyboard and mouse.

and you can install emulators and play roms like snes etc

Yeah you need to download which ever linux distro you want to install and burn it onto a cd/dvd (you also need to download the ps3-addons and burn to cd/dvd too).

The ps3 will only allow you to allocate a certain amount to Linux andthe rest to xmb (i think it's 10gb for one or the other, can't remember).
