Is it always better to buy a recognised brand?

I'm tempted to buy this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190155 for my daughter for Christmas. My son keeps telling me it's a waste of money as it's not a brand name we are familiar with. I'm not sure, with a 2 year warranty it should be ok, shouldn't it?

Looks nice and great price but am rubbish with specs and all that stuff! i have a 5yr old 42 LCD ONN I bought from Asda five years ago and still works great. In my bedroom now but never had any problems with it but tbh think I would go for a good brand name if I could afford to

(p.s how are the twins!!! get back in Magicbeans thread with some pics for us please!)

Theres nothing wrong with AOC? They are a recognise brand, but maybe not as mainstream as Samsung, LG, etc.

Furthermore, my computer monitor is that brand, and is absolutely great!

AOC has pretty good reviews as a manufacturer, havent got anything by them myself but they are an overseas company and just not aswell known. just because they are not a market leader doesnt make thier products junk.

Great! I honestly know nothing about this sort of stuff - but did think the price was pretty good

Sometimes you're paying a premium for the brand name. e.g. Bose. When you can get better for a cheaper price.

Look at reviews, compare specifications. Ignore branding.

My first lcd tv was an AOC. Couldn't fault it at all for the price :) oh, and their standard warranty was 2 years instead of the usual 1 found with other companies too.

Had a AOC monitor years ago, at the time it was rated one of the best you could get
And a lot of big names get complacent knowing people will buy any old junk they turn out because of the name on it

Been using AOC for like 6 years. In most cases except clothes branded is better.

In a lot of cases big brands buy something from an unknown brand and just put their name on it

Ditto got a 22" AOC and not had an issue with it.

Apparently the AOC panels are used in other brands such as Viewsonic.

Mum's after a 32inch tv so I've sent her this link. To me it looks fine, a tv is a tv and when it has a 2years warranty, it's a must buy!

I ordered it for her, much to my son's disgust lol. Thanks everyone for the input, and I've posted those pics for you bossyboots, really living up to your moniker there :p

Its always the same components inside.

TV is a tv. But, Sometimes it just depends on the look of the tv if you want. :)

If you have absolutely no knowledge about the item you are buying and no confidence in your judgement then probably best to stick to a well known brand and pay for it.
Otherwise trust your own judgement and pocket the difference.

AOC is a brand of one of the largest monitor manufacturers in the world. Its a massive company, selling $9 billion of products per year and making close to $500 million profit....

Post it as a deal and watch the "it's not a Sony" comment fly in!
