You can drive without a passenger mirror, if you took it for an M.O.T it would pass. :)

I don't know how you can prove it.

i always thought and dont quote me as long as you have two mirrows your ok so if you have a mirrow inside and one outside you should be ok

Whilst on this topic, is is illegal to drive with a crack in your windscreen? I

have one right at the top of my windscreen, about 20cm long but not in the way of my seeing.

I will be getting it fixed this week, just wondered if I am alright driving it in the meantime?

I don't think so i drove around without one for over a year .

tell her you will prove it after midnight

As far as I am aware it is only necessary to have a drivers side wing mirror, for the purposes of MOT.I am sure this is the case as my passenger mirror has been knocked off a few times by pesky drivers negotiating my narrow street.

Someone else may know different, but I think I am right.

The legal requirements are two rear view mirrors, ie either two side mirrors or a side mirror and your windscreen rear viewmirror.
You must have a really old car though to have wing mirrors as they are door mounted these days lol!

My capri has only one wing mirror and a rear view - its just passed its mot and has done for the past 4 years.

Rear-view mirrors
The law sets out general safety requirements for a vehicle's rear-view mirrors. These requirements apply to original and replacement mirrors. They must:

be adjustable
be attached securely
enable the driver to see the vehicle and its load 'adequately' (and also any trailer and load the vehicle tows).
How many mirrors do I need?
The law says that:

new passenger cars must have two rear-view mirrors (one outside, on the right-hand side, and an inside rear-view mirror)
new light goods vehicles must have an outside right-hand side rear-view mirror and either an inside rear-view mirror or an outside left-hand side rear-view mirror
new mopeds and motorcycles must have one rear-view mirror
all other motor vehicles (except pedal cycles) not covered above need to have at least one rear-view mirror.

It is not illegal to drive with a crack in your windscreen, but it depends where it is whether it would be deemed illegal/Pass an MOT.

It's been 7/8 years since I MOT'd a car, so my recollection is hazy.

Would a broken wing mirror cause you to fail the MOT

Answer: Yes is the answer but only the offside wing mirror
