My OH is trained butcher so his mum always buys a regular fresh turkey and OH deboned and rolls it for her with her own stuffing and the leg meat, so every slice has breast, stuffing and dark meat really nice

I hardly ever buy meat from a supermarket. I prefer my butchers and always get a lovely crown and joint of beef. Feeding the five thousand this year and my brother has just told me he has invited a mate :x

Yes.

I was in a butchers shop a few years ago and a women came in asking how much a turkey would be for 6 people..... the butcher told her it was £64....the woman was visibly shocked but hid it well and wriggled her way out of buying it ' er errr erm, oh ok erm yes that's a good er price can I come back in in a few minutes......'

Personally I shocked too - they were from a free range farm and corn fed etc but I had never realised they cost so much! I was a student at the time, I thought they were about £8 from the supermarket freezer and obviously the old lady thought so too.....

Costco are doing crowns got one 3.2Kg for about 14 quid. Dont know how many that feeds but as theres only eight of us seemed ok.

don't see the point paying over the odds for turkey x x

Crowns are going at around £4 per KG. Turkey prices have increased a hell of a lot. That's the price you pay for the better treatment they get theses days. Well you all did want rid of those nasty cramped sheds yeah?

another vote from M&S, had one from them last year and it was gorgeous

http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/browse.html/ref=sc_iw_c_10_1_51458031_1/278-0151806-5498821?ie=UTF8&node=64292031&no=51458031&mnSBrand=core&me=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM

one on there for £45 or less (with stuffing), but if you go instore they have them slightly cheaper (or did last week)

The basted turkey breast (same page) is nice too

Mirror article:

Christmas turkeys will cost an astonishing £70 for a 22lb bird this year.
Hard-up families already suffering after record rises in household bills will have to pay up to 75 per cent more than last year for a supermarket turkey.
Higher energy bills and the rocketing price of animal feed, coupled with increased labour and packaging costs, have been blamed.
The cost of a standard own-brand turkey has risen from £4 to £6.98 a kilo (£3.17/lb) at Asda.
With an average family-sized bird weighing 10kg (22lb), that works out at £69.80, compared with £40 last year, up 75 per cent.

In Asda my Mum bought a turkey crown for 5-7 people for £13 just last Thursday - I think the next size up was £15 :?

It was in the freezer section in a blue packet, I think

Our budgie looking very nervous now! :-D

The cost of a turkey is a lot more expensive this year. The cost of animal feed is double the cost as they where this time last year due to the price of raw materials.. The cost of these materials have come down but as with everything else the finished product is a lot slower to come down than they are to go up..
#31
I've got one i can let you have i just need to find where it's gone :-D
